i have a somewhat different problem with my aao. its the 6-cell xp 160gb version. i upgraded the ram and replaced the crappy wifi card with an intel 4965agn (highly recommended though it does seem to use slightly more battery). A day after the upgrades were performed the fan began to buzz when I first turned on the computer. If I use AA1fancontrol to stop the fan until the aspire warms up, the problem goes away. it seems that the fan buzzes VERY loudly when it isn't warmed up, but once warm it goes back to being quiet. I may open the case back up to see if perhaps some foreign object got pushed near the fan's area of operation during my upgrades. I know I didn't damage it because I made sure not to touch the area around the fan at all when upgrading. The fan never bothered me before, now its really bad for about the first 5 minutes its turned on. Its so loud that I am unable to boot it up cold in class for fear of disturbing other students.

I suppose I could try to leave fan control on all the time, but I have noticed some instablility can occur if I standby the computer while fan control is running. for example, my battery meter will disappear from the taskbar, or will always display 100% remaining right up until the battery dies. none of these problems occur if I turn off fan control before going to standby.

I think I am unable to send the pc back to acer for a new fan because of the upgrades I have performed, so I am a little unsure of what to do about this. First I think I will carefully disassemble the case again to make sure nothing is in the fan housing. then i will move on from there.
