OK, here is probably a dumb question but I am about to buy a One for travelling. Is there a Briefcase type program to interface/update between the One and my laptop in the office?

Not sure if you have Linux or Windows version. I have the Linux version and just use "sneaker net" to transfer files between my One and my Ubuntu laptop. I use a 2GB SD card, since it is smaller than a USB thumb drive (I keep it in the little plastic box they come in to protect the contacts from dirt in my pocket).

If you are using Windows, I imagine you could use Microsoft Synctoy on the One to synchronize files with a removable drive, then use Synchtoy again on your office computer. (If you're not familiar with Synctoy you should be able to find it on the Microsoft site with a Google search).
