What the difference between network card and broadband modem? Why I must go through modem to connect to the internet? Can I connect to internet just by network card? If modem is like a converter, then what about network card? Does the network card need to convert digital signal to analog before send the data down to the cable? When the other end of the cable is connect to the modem, what happen there? Again another signal convertion by modem?

Are you putting us on? On the chance that you're not, I'll take a shot at your question.

I assume you're asking about this with a Acer 751h. If so, you don't need a network card to access wifi as that is built-in. In regards to wireless broadband such as a 3g network or the coming 4g network from ATT, Verizon, et al., you will need a USB network card and this service typically costs around $30 a month with a 2 year contract. Most of these providers will either give you a network card for free or for less than $50 if not free. NO broadband modem is needed for a network card. One will be needed along with a wireless router if you want to use wifi.
