I have AAO 160G running Windows XP purchased in late 2008. I use internet explorer which is frequently very slow/unable to make a connection/simply crashes.

Any ideas what might be wrong? This is terribly frustrating. My connection to the internet is wireless cable.

I also use a 6, going on 7 year old ibook which is considerably faster and seldom has problems.

There's a grab bag of possibilities depending what you've done with your sytem. If it's only recently started acting that way, could be any of several things. Is it only browsing or is the computer slower all around: could clean up with CCleaner, which also gets rid of browser cache and cookie clutter and clears useless Registry entries.

Try downloading another browser - both Chrome and Firefox 3.5 are faster - if only to see if it's IE causing the trouble. Be sure to get IE8, which is faster and better than 7 and installing it new might fix bad settings. Is it the same way on wireless as on ethernet connection? The drivers were replaced via Windows Update late last year - should be installed.

Make sure you have the latest Atheros driver installed:
