BT hub connection problem

HI can anyone help? we switched to BT internet last week and my sons loaded the BT CD into their lap tops and have had no problems with connecting, the same happened with the home p.c.! However with my acer (firefox) the blue thing goes round for ages and sometime does connect and sometimes doesnt. Sometimes it asks for a password and other time it does not. Its driving me crazy, anyone got any ideas what can do?? I see someone posted the same problem last wednesday but has had not a response except my sympathy so thought would give it a diffeent topic name to see if some kind person can help?? :|
