Built-in network card

Hello guys! I have a question. I am quite a newb when it comes to laptop hardware, but is it possible that the built-in network card differs from brand to brand. Because my sister who has a Dell has a much better connection than I have when put at the same distance from the router. I have an Asus F552L. And if this is the case, is there a way to up the quality or the performance of my network card?
