    Hi,

I'm a college student and I recently got an AAO, which I intend to use mainly for school-related work such as taking notes, writing essays, etc. and am wondering if anyone can recommend a good (hopefully free) calendar program for Windows XP. I saw Mozilla Sunbird which I might give a shot, but if there are any other good ones out there I should know about please let me know!

    Thanks in advance.

I've been using Yahoo online calendar for personal use for quite a long time, does everything I need outside the (MS Outlook on my main PC) business context and it can sync with Outlook via something called "Intellisync" I especially like the integration of the email and calendar into My Yahoo homepage where I keep RSS fees, stock quotes bookmarks, etc. The other BIG TwO - Google and Microsoft - have similar offerings, but over time I get "invested" in configuring these things with address books and setting up services, so I don't switch them casually - it's worth researching at the outset to be sure whatever you pick will work for you both online and offline, and will survive the economic crisis that is decimating a lot of these clever little startups.

For offline access on the Acer desktop, I recently installed the free beta of Yahoo's Zimbra desktop for offline email and calendar access - it was dramatically improved last year, finally including calendar integration, and is worth a look - can apparently pull in gmail and Microsoft Live email and calendars as well. It's still beta but is impressive, and certainly worth a look.

For email and calendar (basically everything one would use outlook for) I use Thunderbird and Lightening (both from Mozilla the makers of firefox).

I have researched quite hard and I think Thunderbird with the lightening plugin for a calendar is amazing and runs really well on my AAO.

You can also use funambol to sync everything up with your mobile phone.

See my blog (link below) for more info - it's under the post about over the air syncing for windows mobile.

    That's a great HOWTO

funambol should be taking over the world! what a great site and concept...
I would buy shares in that - it should become part of Google or something one day

Windows Live is a good way of doing it all as it can also integrate messenger etc and can be all online / offline.
