Can anyone who has received the discs from Acer verify if one of them matches (exactly) the drivers/applications disc (CD2) that is generated by the eRecovery software? The disc I'm talking about has the drivers, a couple of apps, and the manuals. It is about 600mb total, and includes a menu driven system to use it. Is this the same as one of the discs you get?

I got my Acre Aspire one Recovery discs yesterday. However i must have received a defective set. the second disc (Recovery Disk: P/N RD.S050B.AE1) is unreadable by any computer I put it in. This is frustrating, as I actually Paid for the discs.

Just as an update on this scenario:

For shtis and giggles, I just called Acer customer support just to see what would happen. The experience was a pleasant one...

First, I was only on hold for like 45 seconds. The gentleman I spoke with registered my computer first, and then asked how he could be of assistance. I explained that I was trying to get ahold of recovery media.

Second, I was put on hold for another 45 seconds, and he came back on the line, and asked me to write down a Service Call number. He then informed me that my recovery media disks would be arriving in the mail within 3-10 business days. No mention of money, credit cards, or anything.

So, the point of this post: To anyone interested in obtaining official, hard copies of these recovery disks, Acer is apparently still (or again) shipping out free recovery disks. Happy New Year!!!

My Windows recovery CDs arrived today via FEDEX. They actually arrived last week, only a couple of days after speaking to Acer, but I was not home to receive the package. I just wanted to say that I got very good service from Acer on this.

Some of the agents don't seem to be aware that they give them out for free. Maybe you should try again and hopefully get a more informed csr.

I called again today and guess what? They're free! I mentioned I was reading this forum and saw the posts about the free recovery disks.

    Thanks!

Good, I'm glad you got them finally. It's really a bit stressful to know when you are calling that you may get them or you might not. Mentioning the forum was smart. I think Acer is doing it's best to satisfy people without incurring too big a loss as the machines are cheap and the margin is probably not that great. You will probably get them Fedex which is not an insignificant expense for them.

Update: So I ordered them Saturday morning, and they arrived Wednesday at about 11 a.m. Very fast, friendly service is all I have seen from Acer so far. Haven't used them yet, but it's nice to know that I have them if needed. They might come in handy when I replace my hard drive...

Perhaps it's best to test them just in case. I saw one report where somebody could not read the second disk (could have been an old cd rom drive). I'm on the road now and haven't had time to check, but, when I get back, if I have any problems I will post here.

    I called Acer in Denmark (+45 3370 2070).
In Denmark Acer support made it very differcult for me to get the recovery cd. I doubt that I will receive them, but I keep you posted if they come. I think most people will need the cd at one point so this shouldn´t be a problem..
I can only warn people not to purchase Acers products ,in all fairness - at least not in Denmark.
I did find the "service" to be very poor and below a normal standard.
I wonder why Acer Denmark will treat the customers so bad. In Denmark you must sign a contract that states a fee of 400 dkk with an opening to charge additional fees before they do anything :!:
I will take my netbook back to the shop (its less than 1 month old) and get my money back if I can´t get my cd and I suggest everbody else that hasn´t got the free recovery cd to do the same to stop Acer for pulling a fast one!
I will never buy an Acer product again.

    ADVARSEL:
KØB IKKE ACER I DANMARK HVIS DU IKKE KAN BRÆNDE DINE RECOVERY CDÉR ELLER HAR FÅET DEM MED GRATIS SOM ER DET NORMALE HOS ANDRE PRODUCENTER.

Obtaining the CDs for free or, at least at a reasonable cost, puts one through a uncomfortable process (one has to call and there is no telling who is going to answer on that particular day). I'm pretty sure that Acer will address this in the near future as they certainly seem to have put their hearts into these machines. It's a shame to do such a good job on the one side and then, to save a few cents (more?), leave the customer in the uneasy state of feeling that he may not be able to recover from a serious crash by not including the recovery disks.

It is my understanding that the CDs are being included in all Acer netbooks sold in Asia. Maybe someone can jump in and explain why they have decided to adopt a different policy in other places.

Preventative measure? Maybe they don't have enough Chinese speaking CSRs to handle the Asian call volume? They have alot of people over there, after all... I was actually wondering...I have seen some posts about the versions with SSD/XP installs that indicated that the discs were in the box...At least one of those was from Europe somewhere...could it be an SSD thing?

Edit: For the record, both my discs worked, they just didn't write a new MBR like I needed them to. So, they have limitations, apparently. An issue I may just call customer support about, though the story they get will be that a Virus destroyed my partition table and corrupted my MBR...not me, no way... ;) Will post updates as they become available...

I registered my AAO on Acer's web site then called and ordered the recovery disk. The guy pulled up my info on their computer and said they would be shipped right out at no charge. This is the first computer I've bought that hasn't come with a recovery CD.

Hi - I just called Acer Canada to request my recovery disks. Good automated response system and through to a first level support within minutes - very good. No problem getting the disks shipped out and no mention of having to pay. Disks will be shipped tomorrow AM (it's 5PM their local time) via FEDEX. Was also given a Service Request number to help them speed up finding my account info if I have to call again.

Two thumbs up for good support - I'll continue recommending Acer products and I'm impressed with the "One"

Let me first say that I´m glad to read that Acer in Asia put the recovery cd´s in the sold box. It is also good to read that you can get the cds for free in Usa and Canada. That is the way it should be worldwide. :D
The price for the cd´s in Denmark is more than 40 times the price is cost to send them by mail :!: Who benefits from it besides Acer? It could turn out to be a good deal for Acer not to follow the standard since the end-users have to pay whatever they charge. I am not saying its like that but it could be the motive for Acer in Denmark and the other places in Europe where consumers have to pay for the cd´s. I wonder how much they earn on that account? ( I doubt that they lose money on the recovery cd´s since they set the price).
To buy the Acer aspire one (in Denmark) can clearly have hidden cost for the consumer  , it is not the standard yet not to give the option to burn recovery cds and not enclose them with the computer.

 I wouldn´t recommend anybody to buy Acer until they become more fair.

With everyone who did get a recovery CD could you please just put up a copy on the forum, it would really help EVERYONE out by just doing that instead of everyone buying one when it should be free to begin with. I mean its just a thought ;)
