If King will let me post like 5 G attachment, I would be glad to do it. I am afraid I do not know how to host things or post them for download otherwise. I'll make you copies and send them to you, if you pay the shipping... :?

Bought my Acer Aspire One from Walmart on 12/31/2008. I read this thread today and called the Acer Customer Support #. They asked what they could do for me, I said "Please ship me the recovery cds or dvds". They put in the order right away after confirming with my SNID number that I was still under warranty. There is a two week back order on the recovery discs but they gave me an order confirmation number. There was no charge. Couldn't have been easier. Thanks!!!

Ran the idea by King, and it's a no-go. Wary of any possible copyright infringement. I cannot blame him at all; he has invested a lot of time into this site, it would be a shame for any one issue to make it go away.

I am not sure if the discs have our individual Windows keys embedded or not, and until I get a definitive answer from Acer regarding that question, I am going to have to hold off. I don't want my key to become invalid because three million people are using it, ya know?

Will keep working on the issue, and I guess I would also have to acquire a Megaupload account, or something. King did give permission for a direct link to an offsite link, if I read his message correctly. Will keep everyone updated... :|

Bought a ZG5 at Costco on Jan 3, 2009. Had a long email exchange with Acer (http://acer.custhelp.com) on the 11th, XP restore disks got here on the 20th. Had not heard about the 90 day thing but I guess it's not too surprising.

That would be AMAZING if you could do that. Seriously though you know how many questions and problems would be solved if you would do this. Wish there was a reputation button we could give other members. :)

Our individual serial numbers are in fact encoded into the discs, so I will no be hosting my key on a public forum. Sorry guys...

Apparently, that is (one reason) why they ask for your serial when you call, and why the discs they send are burned discs instead of pressed.

I called over the weekend and asked for the recovery disc and was denied. First the CSR told me I had to make them myself using the software and the optical drive. I had to explain to her that the AAO did not have an optical drive. Then she came back and told me that I could not get a recovery disc, I had to use the onboard eRecovery program. Useless.

I plan on calling again today and giving it another shot.

I called with the number provided on the first post of this thread...

On hold for 5 minutes, and then I got an English speaking person on the line who agreed that since I was under warranty they would send them out to me for free...

Heads up, go to Acer and register before calling, so you can type your address and contact info and make things easier...

Also, he mentioned that they were on a 2 week back order, and gave me a case number to check the status whenever I want.

I bought my One in November. I found this forum and called Acer about recovery discs in late Dec. The CSR said I would have to buy the discs. Around the beginning of this month I decided to try one more time, so I sent an email requesting the Recovery Discs. I got them roughly a week later. Thanks to Acer and much thanks to this forum! :D

Called today (18 Feb) at the following number...

Acer America Corp - USA 1-866-695-2237

I was only on the line about 5 minutes or less. Very pleasant experience. Was told as previous posts in this thread that the disks are only available free during the 90 day free software tech support period. I qualified and the disks are on the way.

Thank you Acer Aspire One Forum!

I contacted online support about a sound card problem. They were somewhat clueless there, but I asked for the disks, they asked where to send them and the disks arrived the other day, no trouble.

Hi all, first post here. I spent roughly an hour on the phone, and the csr is repeating to me that the aspire one has never had recovery discs available for free. She is sending out an email for a callback when I asked for a supervisor. I have mentioned the forums and she insists I will have to buy them and won't even be available for 1-2 weeks. Mind you I have the 10" version (owned for 3 days now) and I understand not being available but telling me that everyone on this thread is lying I don't. Is there any secret words or maybe a different email to send to someone to get a real response? This is frustrating I've never owned a laptop and don't have an external drive just yet. She also tells me that the aspire one doesn't have the 'option' to make a recovery disc, her notes say that it's not an option 'even if the user uses an external drive" How is this when their program keeps telling me to 'make a recovery disc now' and keeps popping up on me? Well my rant is over, any help getting these discs would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I just called Acer for my disks.

    I have the D150.

The call went fast and painless, I gave her my serial number and she put me on hold for a minute. She then informed me that they have no disks available at this time. That it might be a few months before they get some, if any. Try back in a month or Two.

she at least acknowledged it was free.. but, she also said the D150 has no hard drive, it is only shipped as an SSD... ummm..

I'll give it a week or two and try back..

Called to request recovery disks for my Acer One Aspire...Very pleasant lady explained that she could not send me disks since the Acer One does not have an optical disk drive (!), but that she would send me a USB recovery stick since I was within my 90 day software warranty...It arrived by FedEx two days later! No complaints here, but I think it depends a lot on who you talk to...

I called and placed my order for XP Home recovery disks. I had no problem making the order but I was told they were on back order and the rep said she had no idea when I would receive them.

I am using Windows 7 but it's good to have a backup for XP. You just never know what's going happen.
