I have a viewsonic va1903wb and a va1916w, both 19 inch with 1440x900, connected to desktop looks perfect, connected to aao i can´t get same quality, it´s like fonts are blured. I´m on winxp, i´m not using clear type effects, i have all drivers installed prpertly, i know how to use the aao external views, dual, monitor alone, clone, etc... but the only proble is that.
This is a limitation for the vga chipset or something like that?
Also is my first laptop, so i don´t have experience with external monitors.

    Any help?? thanks!!!

can you tell whether the monitors are scaling up the standard 1024x600 image from the AA1 or have you changed things to make the AA1 produce a 1440x900 image?

How did you select this resolution? I don't have it in my list..

    Thanks!

I've had problems getting the 1440x900 option to show up if the wrong monitor frequency is set. Try 60Hz or 75Hz. On one laptop I have (not the Aspire) the 1440x900 display looks slightly blurry at 60Hz, but it's fine at 75Hz.

Nope, tried it and no result. The closest resolution I have is 1440x1050...

    Thanks!

The only way to get a high res screen on an external monitor is to select external monitor ONLY (laptop screen must be off) then change to the desired resolution.

1: what length cable and what quality cable are you using?
    2: have you installed ultramon?

I have been using external 1440x900 viewsonic without problem.

You have to select "ext monitor" only.

You may have to also modify a file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) to add other resolutions.

There are few posts around that covers that.

PM me if you still have problems.

Upgrade to the bios to the newest one. The problem has been addressed by intel's graphic accelerator bios which comes with the newest bios.

Any links to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf settings?
