I recently threw my Aspire One on the floor with a lot of force - the screen broke and the hard disk isn't working and makes a weird beeping noise whenever i plug it in.

I've connected the netbook to an external 15'' monitor and booted puppylinux of a usb key. So I confirmed that everything else is working except the hdd and screen.

So can I replace the wrecked 120 hdd with an 2.5'' SATA WD 250gb, 5200 r/pm, 8 mb cache?

I know how to take apart the One (1.5gb mod already done), I just don't know if this hdd will work.

Yes, that drive should work. You can install a 500GB drive, if necessary.

Septurion.... I recently did the same thing with the same model. I bought another one but with a 160GB HD for $294.00 at Sams. I feel like a total moron for doing that. If you don't mind me asking, was it because of the computer or computer related issues? I busted mine after re-installing Ubuntu Linux about 5 or 6 times in a row and later (after I threw it actually in the trash with a lot of force) I found out it was the kernel update that was killing it. I was really pi$$ed off because I found out that kernel update had been wrecking laptops right and left for months and they were still including it in the updates.

It was because of drunk issues :-D. I've put the netbook in my school bag and forgot it's there, then I threw the bag on the floor (180 swing with my arm). The instant it fell on the floor I remembered the netbook...
