When I use the password for the file this is the error i get, it takes a few secounds for the error message to appear.

    [root@localhost ~]# mount -t cifs //192.168.1.4/home /mnt/home/Share
    Password:
    mount error 20 = Not a directory
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)
    [root@localhost ~]#

    Hi,
Seems like your getting close now, and not wanting to throw you on a wrong track - but
have you tried using the samba tools, such as smbtree, to probe the Windows networking?

    eg.
    [user@localhost ~]$ sudo smbtree
    Password:
    WORKGROUP
    \\DLINK-EEF76A DNS-323
    \\DLINK-EEF76A\lp USB Printer
    \\DLINK-EEF76A\IPC$ IPC Service (DNS-323)
    \\DLINK-EEF76A\Volume_1
\\DLINK-EEF76A\web_page Enter Our Web Page Setting

This might confirm the mount path to be used.

I don't recall if these come installed by default or not. If not, below are the packages -
    [user@localhost ~]$ yum list samba-client
    Loaded plugins: priorities
58 packages excluded due to repository priority protections
    Installed Packages
    samba-client.i386 3.0.26a-6.fc8 installed
    Available Packages
    samba-client.i386 3.0.33-0.fc8 updates-newkey

After getting cifs to work, the next step for me was autofs... I've blogged how I did that at -

Hi thanks for the reply. Another problem I have now is the NAS hard drive has gone faulty so things are on hold at the moment. Thanks for what you have suggested and ill try it when things are up and running.
