I'm having trouble getting the .NET Framework 1.1 to update through Windows Update.
I'm trying to install Streets & Trips 2007 and before it will install it says that it will install the framework. It gets started on this then just hangs for a bit and quits (with no error messages).
So I tried manually installing it via windows update and I get a really helpful "installation failed". With no other hint of what's going on.

Any clue of what is happening?

I was pretty trigger happy the other day when stripping crap out of windows after I installed it so maybe I took something out that I shouldn't have. I know I did leave the \$hf_mig folder alone.
Running XP SP3 (slipstreamed SP2 then updated) on 8gb intelSSD, 1GBram.
    Thanks!

I had the same problem, I belive it's related to SP3.
I tried many times with no luck.
Download it from microsoft, NOT with "Windows Update", (search for Net. Framework 1.1 runtime) the file name is "dotnetfx.exe" it's a executable zip file.
Then search for winrar (rarlab.com) and download and install winrar.
use winrar and "Unpack" the dotnetfx.exe to "C:\dotnetfx", then run the "Netfx.msi".
It's important that the files is in "C:\dotnetfx" and not other drives.
Remember to update with Net. Framework 1.1 SP1 after sucessfull install.
