Cant reinstall XP with restore disks

    Hi everybody,new member here with a slight problem.
    Bought this aspire one with legit copy of Acers WindowsXP installed on it.I thought I would try and see what all the fuss is about Linux so I downloaded and installed Linux.I now want to reinstall XP with the original xp restore disks.All goes well until the end of the install and XP reboots and I end up with a black screen with error 17 in the upper top left corner of the screen.I can install Linux no problem but cant reinstall XP.
    Any help appreciated.

    had this problem, ended up using Partition Magic to reset the HD as an NTFS disk, then installed XP to the whole, on the reboot it failed with grub error 22, so I installed ubuntu again but this time I was able to install ubuntu to 5gb of the HD, on reboot you then get the options for XP and Ubuntu, its to do with the XP MBR been over written
