I installed Mandriva 2008.1 and my card readers are dead. It knows there's hardware there, it just doesn't know what to do with it. Anyone know from where/how I can update the drivers for the card readers?

    TIA

If you check out the Ubuntu room under Linpus there are answers in there, they may work under Mandriva or require some tweaking perhaps.

Sorry i cannot be any more helpful.

Yeah, "tweaking" is usually beyond my limited ability. I've found some of those solutions for other distros (notably, Ubuntu and Fedora), but don't want to wade into something I know is over my head.

    Thanks, tho.

Why did you go for Mandriva 2008.1 instead of Mandriva 2009 Gnome? in 2009 if you have your cards inserted when you boot then it will see them without any problems but if not then you can alter your rc.local file to make it work all the time. Here is the change you need to make 2009 work but I am not sure it will work for 2008.1

It's actually Mandriva Flash. I don't have an external optical drive, and the AAO doesn't have one, either, so USB was my only option. Since Mandriva doesn't support unetbootin, and I couldn't make anything else work, I bit the bullet and bought Flash. I'm more or less okay with Mandriva. My main problem -- and it's a deal-breaker for any OS -- is the card readers.

I'll probably install Fedora 10 in a few days. I know there are folks running it on the Aspire One who've got the machine working 100% (with a few well-documented, easy-to-follow tweaks).
