Trying to get on the internet while traveling.

I want to connect my AOA150-1126 XP 160g machine to ATT.

Basic questions... are there other options for the set-up besides USB?

Which mfg's make a card that excepts SIM cards?

    Thanks!

    using USB

    Thanks

Not being a 'mod' type person I am hoping there may be a solution
to get a cell card device to attach to one of the USB jacks.

Has anyone seen a option to do this that does not require opening up
    the case?

    Hoping in California

    Re: using USB

W/o opening the case there is only Bluetooth compatible mobile phone or Wi-Fi enabled mobile phone with Wi-Fi router software option available. USB modems are most comfortable to operate as they do not require any special software/operation. If you'll consider opening the case there is also another way of installing USB connected modem inside of AA1:

This device is GSM/GPRS compatible - as it's from Orange UK. ATT is US network operator and for data you have EVDO standard AFAIK - let someone correct me if I'm wrong. But yes - it will be similar form factor to USB dongle you've seen. Inside of this USB modem there is standard SIM card - and again - in US there is bit different way of connecting mobile to the network. Best way to clarify how it works is ask any cell-shop locally in US...

You can also use Huawei E220 - best 3G USB dongle available on the market ;)

Does the Huawei E220 also have a slot for a SIM card?

I have done some searching but it is un-clear.

What about "unlocking the computer". Does either it or the Huawei E220
need to be unlocked from the cell carrier?
I want to use this set-up in Mexico, France, US etc. Planning on buying a local SIM card
at each stop to cut down on costs.

    Will my plan work?

Do I need special service or a certain SIM card to get data?

Every European version does. I do not know about US - still believe this modem is available there ;)

I'm not quite sure I know what you mean. Computer does not have to be unlocked. I believe you think about SIM-lock which is "part" of the modem...

If you buy UNLOCKED one from ebay the answer is NOT. If you buy cheaper from Network Operator the answer is YES.

You have to check how the Data Download works in Mexico and US. In Europe this modem will work perfectly as it's designed for this "market"...

Data download is rather separate from calling plan. Unless you have data plan associated with your calling plan. I have some minutes and texts and unlimited data from o2 in UK. Works for me...

That's what you have to check with your local cell operator. Probably you can have only one SIM card and have data everywhere in Europe but it will cost you more as Network Operators are charging a lot of money for mobile Internet access. Having separate SIM cards will be cheaper as you getting "local" access but in that case you have to check data service availability on "Pay'n'Go" SIM cards. Some of the Operators may not provide this service on prepaid mobiles.

I think this is quite complicated to clarify as amount of offers available on the market is endless. I believe the best way to get more info is to go to Mobile Shop and get the info from them...
