change password

    i recently got this aspire one machine, i never used linux before this,

    i m trying to ''change it's password'' but it require current password, i dont know what to
    enter in that, someone please tell me from where i can get that???
    or if someone knows that please tell me,,

    I assume the machine is "booting".

    Press alt-f2, enter "terminal" followed by the enter key.
    At the "$" prompt enter "sudo passwd user" followed by the enter key.
    Enter the new password (you will be asked for it twice).
    Close the "terminal" application.

    I understand this, but isnt it a huge security flaw? I mean, being able to change any users password, whats the point in even having one?

    The Aspire One is a netbook. Yes, you can beef up the login security, but what's the point?
    If someone stole it (most likely security breach), they could simply boot from USB, and take the data anyway. The system is secure from network attacks -- if you need local security, encrypt your files.
