I have absolutely no experience of Linux and would be grateful if someone could guide me through changing the language.
I've tried Kapinouwi's method (posted in the Beginners' Linux section on Dec 11, 2008) but was told that the "file doesn't exist". I have also tried Daldred's solution (posted same section on Nov 27, 2008) but, while it opened a "window1" which enabled me to choose the language and select the keyboard layout, I could see no way of confirming the choice before quitting window1. So nothing was changed!

OK I tried that but the result flashed by so fast I couldn't see it. Thank you all the same!
