I just got a netbook about a month ago and I haven't yet figured out how to change the wallpaper. I've searched on google and all I find is complicated instructions. It seems like this should be easy - on my other computer, I just right-click and select "save as wallpaper". On this netbook, I can't even find wallpaper or background as an option anywhere. Thanks in advance!

Just right-click an empty spot on the desktop > Properties > Desktop > Pick from the default list or browse. If you browse to your own image, be sure it's sized correctly, and decide between Center, Tile, or Stretch to fit screen, which is 1024 X 600 pixels.

Are you using Windows 7 Starter? It may be disabled, in that case.

You could sniff around for programs that can change the wallpaper for you and such; as well as upgrade your version of 7. I did the latter (from XP), though, so I don't know if any wallpaper-changing apps exist.

Right clicking on a blank spot doesn't give me those options, forone - that's how I change wallpaper on my desktop, but I'm guessing it's because of the version of Windows. Yes bloodstar, I'm using Windows 7 Starter. I guess I could upgrade, but if that's the only thing I can't figure out, I'd rather not. I'm trying to keep what I do to/with this netbook as basic as possible. Any other suggestions appreciated. :)

    Hi there,

you could try to find out what the wallpaper file is called ans where it is located and replace it with a wallpaper of your choice!
Never had any experience of Windows 7 Starter, but I would guess you would have to look in the registry to find where it is pointing to for the wallpaper.

This is my much delayed response - this sounds like what I need to do. But, I still have no idea how to do so. How do I "look in the registry"?

    Hi there,

Go to the Start button and then run and type in regedit.
this will bring up the registry editor.

Now, this is important, do not muck about in here or change anything as it is very easy to wreck your computer from Regedit!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Now, do a search for bmp or jpg as I would think that this is the type of file that would be used.

If that sounds a bit too scary, the longer way round would be to look in the C:\Windows folder for all images and open them up and have a look and see if ny are the same as your background, logic says if you find one then thats what its called.

    Worth a punt!!
