Check that you have some sort of window decoration set in the Emerald Theme Manager. If there's no theme set, there's nothing to tell Compiz what to put round the windows!

yeah you were right. I did not have a theme selected in emerald.
so I picked a theme in emerald and activated compiz again. and it looked like it worked at first but when I closed the terminal it disappeared again  so now I´me back to square one.
what should i do to fix this?

    Close the terminal?

How are you starting compiz? Can you try starting it by pressing Alt-F2 to bring up a run box, then type compiz-manager in there to start it.

:| that is the way I start compiz.
I disabled compiz by pressing Alt-F2 and typed xfce4-autostart-editor and unchecked the compiz box.
the problem seems to be that I cant get emerald to "stay on" after I start compiz and close the terminal.
