We are looking for hardware Hacks and modifications out here.....
(Not buying, and carrying loads of shit with you!!)

So i was more thinking about connecting something like this "

    http://www.tootoo.com/d-p2396494-Rca_Pin_Jack_Single_/

"on the right place with a little soldering (if we got the ideal situation).

Otherwise a mini rgb to composite converter or something like that..
    anyone ideas or also interested??

    Zzzzzzz......

That would be cool if the embedded video had the pins for an svideo connection - most intel mobile graphics do.

It's worth checking the datasheet of the chipset, I'm almost sure the chipset has the functionality, though it's not on the motherboard.

The 945gms chipset does have the ablity with additional componnents to provide a TV out . all pins concerned have been held to 1.5V by direct connections to the Mother Board.

    these are
    TVDAC_A PIN A21
    TVDAC_B PIN C20
    TVDAC_C PIN E20
    TV_REFSET PIN G23
    TV_IRTNA PIN B21
    TV_IRTNB PIN C21
    TV_IRTNC PIN D21

The rest have been left disconnected.

This would be a major undertaking, and depending on what layer the 1.5V get to these pins may be impossiable :(

    Regards

If you would be using this primarily for watching videos on a tv (as opposed to gaming etc) there is also the option of using a media-center type hard drive enclosure. They can be fairly cheap, especially if you have an extra HD to use, and you are getting more mobile storage. Not really a hack of the One though I admit.

Is there nobody making a universal adapter for vga to composite (ie the adaptor appears to the computer as a monitor so it doesn't matter what video card you use)? You would think a lot of people would have use for such a thing. I don't know how bulky/expensive the device would have to be with today's level of technology but I suspect not very.

the first vga to svideo or composite cable will work (if you know what you're doing) as you can use the part of the vga signal to "convert" to a composite video.

Folks, the 1st vga-to-composite cable will not work. (unless the chipset has a special composite output which is feed through a pin of the vga output connector, which i doubt there is). To get composite output out of vga, you would need a converter, because the vga output is split into blue, red and green signal and the vertical and horizontal synchro signal. The composite signal has all of it in the single signal. (one wire, plus the ground) While the synchro signal of the VGA can be changed depending on the resolution the synchro embedded in the composite signal is standard. Not only you would need to combine the colors, but you would need regenerate the synchro signal to the composite signal standard. The simplest solution is to buy a vga-to-composite converter or else you might want to build one from perhaps a microcontroller if you want an any-vga-resolution-to-composite conversion. But you would need good programming skills though (in assembly).

Sorry guys totally lost with all this :? are we saying that the acer aspire one cannnot be linked to the tv without additional hardware / mods other than just a simple vga to vga cable ( my particular tv - panasonic th42px70b has a pc input socket - vga style ) have noticed that upon switch on off the pc the first few seconds off boot up screen will appear on the tv itself but after that there is nothing.

have tried a second laptop ( non acer aspire one ) and this time using the same cable connections I dont even get this initial start up screen appearing.

    anyone ??
