I have restored the computer twice already and it continues to lag very badly every time. even the music lags from the speakers. the internet lags. movies lag. the whole computer lags and runs really slow. anybody got any ideas on what to do?

If the system is XP go to settings/control panel/system/hardware/device manager/IDE ATA/primay ide channel/advanced settings.
Make sure transfer mode is set to DMA and not pipo
