Try hitting Alt+F10 (at the same time) when you see the Acer logo screen after turning on your PC .. then follow the onscreen instructions.

That's highly likely to mean the PQSERVICE (recovery) partition is corrupt, so you'd need an Acer recovery disk .. or a Windows disk to re-install.

You *may* iif you're lucky enough to know someone with the same model of Acer, be able to copy across whatever's become corrupt but that would be a lot of work.

Phone Acer, ask how much the recovery disk is .. or take it to a professional.

Another option would be to ditch Windows altogether, and install Linux, which is after all free. :)

The procedure for doing a factory reset is to hold Alt + F10 when you turn on your PC.

Doing that will reinstall Windows from the hidden (X:\) PQSERVICE partition on your hard drive .. by running an application called d2d32.exe contained in the hidden partition.

If the d2d32.exe application (or anything else) contained in the hidden PQSERVICE partition is corrupt, there is no option but to replace the PQSERVICE partition .. this AFAIK, can ONLY be done with the Acer "Recovery" CD.

You *could* try accessing the X: partition from DOS, and running d2d32.exe manually, but I'm guessing it won't work.

    See here:
    http://www.raymond.cc/blog/the-impo...-pqservice-partition-and-mbr-on-a-new-laptop/
    including the comments.

As I said .. if the PQSERVICE partition is corrupt .. it cannot be fixed without the recovery disc.

Think of it like this .. normally you'd have an XP CDROM to reinstall, if it became damaged it wouldn't work, and would need to be replaced .. The PQSERVICE partition is the equivalent of your XP CDROM, if it's damaged, it needs replacing .. this can ONLY be done by Acer re-imaging the drive, or with an Acer "recovery" disk for your particular model. (or from a complete disk image if you created one)

But there's nothing to stop you installing a different OS from a disk, or USB stick.
