    Yes, the problem is well known...
    Now we know you can access the internet,
    I suggest you search this forum for "No package vlc available"

    Thank you so much, pinky. I have been looking for a resolution to this problem for a very long time now. I utilized the search function and searched google, but every guide did not work for me. Yours also showed me how to make it a desktop icon! Thanks again, you have been such a huge help.

    To everyone else who has been really mean about giving information about this, please understand that it isn't always so easy for people to find these things, even if you find them obvious.

    I agree with what you just said. I have installed vlc before, but had to reinstall linux. now even copying and pasting the commands I get an error.
    Error: Missing Dependency: libpulse.so.0(PULSE_0) is needed by package vlc
    Error: Missing Dependency: libdc1394.so.22 is needed by package ffmpeg-libs
    Error: Missing Dependency: libdvdnav.so.4 is needed by package vlc-core

    Any ideas anyone..

    Thanks Pinky,

    Your link to http://www.macles.blogspot.com saved my newbie neck! I I followed the procedures and was able to install vlc with no problem. I also used the code they had to put the vlc icon on the desktop.

    Since I already had skype installed, I used their code (changing the dca add number) to install the Skype icon on the desktop.

    WARNING: Through trial and error I installed the Skype icon on ALL my desktop panels... before finding the right number! I don't remember the number...

    I also ran the uninstall command for Media Master but was not able to uninstall it.

    1) Does anybody know how to uninstall the Media Master. What is the "true name" of Media Master? When I do a media search (under Install/Uninstall) I several media files are listed.

    2) If anybody knows where to go to uninstall icons, instructions would be greatly appreciated.

    See Macles at http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/11/installing-vlc-09-on-aspire-one-linux.html
    in the next to last command. Note that vlc 0.9 did not work well for me but vlc 0.8.7 is fine.

    Use "sudo mousepad /home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml" It's fairly simple to figure out but save a working copy while you are learning.

    Thanks jinx022

    I have repeatedly tried
    sudo yum remove pdvdlinux mplayer\*
    sed /pcmmvp/d -i $HOME/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml

    and I always receive the following -indicating that the mplayer has been removed- but when I go to Multimedia>Media Master, Media Master comes up. Note: The icon has been removed from the desktop and now there is a blank space in Media Master's space.

    How do I fully get rid of Media Master so that it will no longer show up in Multimedia?

    [user@localhost ~]$ sudo yum remove pdvdlinux mplayer\*
    Setting up Remove Process
    fedora 100% |=========================| 2.1 kB 00:00
    rpmfusion-free-updates 100% |=========================| 2.7 kB 00:00
    rpmfusion-free 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00
    updates-newkey 100% |=========================| 2.3 kB 00:00
    primary.sqlite.bz2 100% |=========================| 3.7 MB 00:06
    updates 100% |=========================| 2.6 kB 00:00
    No Match for argument: mplayer*
    No Match for argument: pdvdlinux
    No Packages marked for removal
    [user@localhost ~]$ sed /pcmmvp/d -i $HOME/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml

    Thanks!

    Media Master is a weird beast, i would not bother uninstalling it at all ( i had some issues with it, so decided to leave it alone), you could try the add/remove options from the XFCE dropdown menu....?

    Better to edit the group-app.xml file and replace the media master line with vlc.
    :)
