I have been going into circuit city a lot lately seeing if they have any in stock so I can make an impulse buy (plus it was $310). I just went in a few minutes ago and they told me it was discontinued, they even sold the display model so there isn't one on the floor anymore.

Are new versions on the way? Is this guy full of crap?

    A load of tosh.

It's just come out, why would it be discontinued? You can still get hold of the EEE 701 so why not a netbook that's been out for a few months?

If there really are so many problems with blank screens... Acer might hold them back until they have a fix, maybe?

They may be getting ready to put out a 3g version soon. This is not the first time I've heard this rumor. Perhaps CC is discontinuing sales of this model because of the return rate.

I saw the same thing at my local CC... My thought is that CC is going to just carry a different model, perhaps the XP unit or even a different color.

There is no way they can just stop selling it, especially considering the rate they sold these out...

(unless of course the morons are running the place) :p

my guess is also that it is just CC probably going to switch to the windows ones instead..it would seem like your average CC shopper might well not do well w/ the linux version.

CC are also kinda morons they had their poor little display AAO in the display (locking) rack for full sized lappys which was making the vertical viewing angle impossible to really read the display at all..and make the little aspireone look TINY meh... they gave me my $70 price guarantee credit so good on them I suppose.

It would not surprise me to learn that the 110L is going to be no longer stocked at US retailers.

    1. It could just be a refresh, adding a 1280x800 resolution screen for example, but I doubt it.

    2. It could be repalced 3G models, but these are sold as part of a contract with wireless carriers, not as a standalone machine. There is no reason for them not to coexist.

    3. 6-cell battery as standard? No...

    4. Oh, Linpus was a mistake, all machines will now come with Ubuntu NR preloaded! (in your dreams, fanboy)

No, I think this is going to be the standard "Acer America has decided to focus on giving customers with the best computing experience by exclusively selling the popular Windows XP operating system" Windows-funded give-linux-the-boot cooperative marketing strategy. Linpus models will continue to be sold in "emerging markets" ... ie. wherever Microsoft doesn't provide substansive kickbacks.

In their defence I don't think they sold any Linpus machines since the XP version came out anyway. What do you expect when the cost of XP adds only $12 to the price of the machine?

I also think that XP offers a less frustrating out-of-the-box user experience, primarily because it allows user to install their own apps without having to deal with "sudo mousepad /home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml". That last is just a personal obervation...

I also think it allows CC to sluff off a ton of extra crud on the unsuspecting buyer. When I went to my local CC to get my AA1 I had to convince the little Firedog-shirt-wearing guy that, yes, they had them would he please go in the back to get one. While waiting for him to get back I had to stand there and listen to another CC guy telling grandma, who was buying a laptop for her daughter or granddaughter, that she needed the anti-virus software. Then, she really wouldn't be protected unless she also bought the anti-spyware software. And, oh, she really should buy the full version of Office to do documents... Luckily the little Firedog trotted back holding what I'd come for about that time and I was out of there.

Yeah you are right. CC doesn't like linux because they can't upsell other crap on top of it. To them, windows is better so they can try to take advantage of people by making them buy extra software.

I absolutely hate listening to people in tech stores trying to sell products to customers. All of them, I wish I could say Apple was different but they aren't. Most computer salesmen I have talked to don't know as much as they think they do about computer/electronics. It is so annoying in fact, I rarely ever enter a store for computer hardware. I only went to CC so that I could maybe see the A1 in person, and seeing that they had a good price on it I figured i'd check back for it. I can't remember ever going to a store looking for a computer before that.

Oh I don't know about that, a lot of people seem to avoid the XP version like it was the plague. Personally I wouldn't want a netbook full of Microsoft crap even if it was free, Linpus seems like a much better alternative for those who simply want portable internet.

I see many stores are showing no stock on the One and none of the stores have any sort of "re-supply" date as I've called and checked with many retailers.

My AOA-150-1570 died 2 days after I had it (blank screen) and it had the .3114 bios. So now I'm wondering if I should still pick up a AOA110-1722 (SSD version) granted I can find one at a retailer or online store and that I can downgrade the bios to the (safer ?) .3109 bios or should I wait to see if Acer will address this situation with either their hardware or a new bios.

I've been researching and waiting to get a netbook for months now and finally gave up waiting on Dell's mythical E and bought the One only to have it die.

If you're in NYC, J & R has them. With tax it was $357. So they were about $20 more than CC.

J&R had several in stock. (I called before going down there.)
