The only downside is one you seem comfortable with, backing up and reinstalling. Windows 7 RC1 has an expiration date, and you will NOT be able to upgrade to the retail version, it'll have to be a clean install once it is available.

If you don't mind backing up and reinstalling software/data, then there is no reason not to use W7 on your Acer.

Downloaded Win 7 RC 1 yesterday and installed w/o hitch so far. Runs fine with just 1 g mem and the stock 160G drive. I believe it installed in place of XP leaving the recovery partition as it was, but of course I can't be sure of that as I have not tried to run the recovery. But I also have DVDs (2) for recovery and (1) with programs.

I had very little installed on the AA1 so the backup/recovery did not seem like a big job. Also, Win 7 RC 1 has a program called Easy Transfer that makes the backup and transfer a snap (for content files, not for programs).

W7 looks and acts great on the AA1, so I'm quite pleased so far. I had tried the beta and thought that was pretty good, and this looks even better--like the best parts of xp and vista combined. If this holds true over time I think MS will have a big winner in W7.

    Cheers and thanks--

Just wondering as I got the Aspire One D250 with 160GB and Atom N280 did you install Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit? Would the 64-bit version actually work on the Atom N280?

Thanks for the information, I will as such prepare an USB flash drive and install Windows 7 32-bit as you have done. Would the 64-bit version work on these Atom N280 chips? Just wondering as it shows in their specs Intel 64 as not ticked, so I guess won't work. While the Atom 330 does have this ticked, so I am assuming as such the N280 (and N270) won't work with the 64-bit operating systems.

    Unfortunately, the Atom N and Z series won't support 64 bit :(

Just wait, I bet radioman will pull up screenshots of his D250 with RAID10 support and 64bit Windows Server 2012 super-alpha preview ...

Mmm I just saw that Acer (NL) has the Aspire One D250-HDT which has a 10.1inch with 1280x720 resolution, so I am now really thinking of reselling my D250-BT and getting this improved version with the better screen... Just need to see if I can get them delivered to Belgium. ;-)
