    Re: Custom desktop script

Hey is there anyway you could write a script or an explanation on how to just change the desktop. I don't need the other programs installed.

    Thanks.

Hello! Thanks for a great script! I have one problem though, i used your script and then upgraded fedora via the terminal, "sudo yum upgrade" i think it was. Now my WLAN doesnt work. When i boot up, the icon thats supposed to be down to the left isnt there and i cant start the network center manually either. Anyone know a fix or a solution?

This script looks absolutely brilliant. I can't wait to test it out.

This should be made a sticky thread, it turns the AA1 from a toy into a fully usable PC. This is how it should have arrived out of the box. Thanks again :D

    Re: Custom desktop script

What could I edit out in the script so that it doesn't remove the Messenger that it originally comes with?

    Re: Custom desktop script

Something I missed was adding applications to the "start" menu. I know that I can add them using the menu manager, but I would like to know who to include items in the categories that are already in the menu. When I download some applications to add there is no *.desktop file included, and I think that this needs to be included as a pointer for the menu? Anyone able to help here?

    Re: Custom desktop script

I think this is still by far, the best desktop replacement application/script on the forums.

It will be even better if/when our glorious master releases a second version-- one that is fully supported by Fedora repositories :)

(In it's current form it seems to be somewhat of a frankenstein. But this is temporary, right? ;)

    Again, fantastic work.

    Re: Custom desktop script

So I'm sure there is some pathetically simple answer to this, but after downloading the script, opening the terminal and accessing the Downloads, I get "No such file or directory" after entering the "sudo sh ./aone-config.sh" command. When I use the file manager I see that the script is in the Downloads directory. Is there another way to run this script? Thanks.

Make sure the text case is right...
cd downloads is not the same as cd Downloads.

    Re: Custom desktop script

    This is pretty easy:
    1) Open the downloaded script with mousepad.
    2) Scroll down to the first line in the fourth "paragraph". This is the line that starts with PACKAGES_TO_REMOVE
    3) Delete libpurple (this is the acer brand messenger)
    4) Optional: you may not need the pidgin messenger so you can delete pidgin from the following line (starting with PACKAGES_TO_INSTALL). This will stop pidgin from being installed.
    5) save
    6) run script

Thanks for this script k0ro - it's awesome! :!: If you're planning any future updates to it, anything that would make the aao run faster, further reduce the memory footprint, further cut down the size of the linux etc would be very cool.
For example, the script installs claws-mail but doesn't remove the acer email, which is probably redundant with claws.

    Re: Custom desktop script

Yeah, it's really weird I am doing that part correctly. I even tried moving the downloaded script to the Documents directory and running the file from there. Nothing works, it will not executive the file in response to command "sudo sh ./aone-config.sh"

    Re: Custom desktop script

So I used this script a couple days ago, and I've been very happy with it for the most part. My only real complaint was the choice of upgrading to FF3, which I didn't want to do, as it is much more stuttery, so I got Opera to fix that complaint.

However, how do I get multi monitors supported? I'm trying to install a game (EvE-Online) and the inital dialog box is too tall for the native 600px. I have a monitor that is nativly 1280x800, but when I connect it, I get nothing, and I can't find anything that will allow me to use the second monitor.

    Re: Custom desktop script

I got my secondary screen working, although only at 1024 x 768 resolution, simply by plugging it in and hitting Fn-F5, and then setting the resolution from Display Settings. Higher resolutions than that aren't listed, and I haven't figured out how to enable them if the hardware supports them (working on it; perhaps someone wiser can help faster). But perhaps this will get you out of trouble for now.

Edit: The information you're looking for is here: [ viewtopic.php?f=13&t=94 ]. Be careful when editing xorg.conf, you can really screw up your displays with it. A side effect of enabling those higher resolutions is that your system default font size gets smaller, which screws with some stuff.

Edit 2: EvE Online requires an nVidia graphics card. I very much doubt you'll be able to get it run with the onboard Intel graphics on the One.

    Re: Custom desktop script

Seems you're right. I remember the game not always being quite so stringent, and was hoping that I could get it working in Linux. I know a person with an MSI Wind that has EvE working on it. Very similar hardware, but he's running WinXP, which is something that I don't want to mess around with right now.

I did get the program to launch, but it's full of artifacts that are caused by the drivers and hardware not being up to snuff.

    Re: Custom desktop script

Are you using an SD card to expand your space? I am, and found it downloaded to /mnt/Downloads, rather than /home/user/Downloads

All in all, it really did a bad job of 'expanding' my space.

Now, with this script having been run, it's not even trying, and has mounted it into /media/Kingston (which is the manufacturer of the card).

    Re: Custom desktop script

You know, I was wondering if that might be the issue. I am using a 16GB Transcend SDHC card to expand. I did notice with another desktop I tried out that it did not "expand" as the xfce-lite that comes out of the box.

I'll try removing the SD card and re-downloading. Thanks.

    Re: Custom desktop script

I was just wondering if I could leave the hacked acer version of Thunar in there instead of replacing it with the actual xfce one so that I would be able to keep the add on expansion slot functional? I'm assuming that all I'd have to do is edit the script and take out the Thunar in the remove and install lines? If so, should I take out thunar vol-man in the install line to avoid ant conflicts. What do you guys think?

Hi, I was wondering if someone could write a script that would just change the desktop and leave the rest of the system alone.

    Thanks.
