The script worked fine for me except the fonts in open office became very big . Does some one know hoe to fix that ?

This is excellent, thanks for sharing!

My only issues are that when I start with an SD card inserted, it automatically opens file browser - is there a way to stop this?

Also, the battery icon isn't remembering my settings - I turned the icon and percentage off, but on startup, the icon comes back, and it says 50%% for some reason, so I have to redo the icon's settings.

Thanks a lot, your script is all right !
The only thing I'm not very happy is Firefox 3 : there is sometimes "freezes" using it and some websites are "different" from how they are in Firefox 2...

Ok for the SD go in to the Storage options, Under Settings and untick the box that says when i insert card automaticly open explorer (sorry not in front of mine right now so cant remember exact wording)

For the battery just set to show % left and over hover show time seems to work fine as i had the same issue

Thanks for that - I didn't realise there was a simple option to stop it working, I was expecting to have to do more than that!

For the battery, I already had it set to only show % left (which seems to automatically give the blue bar, which is fine), but it still doesn't work properly at startup, the only way I can get it to sort itself out is to go into its properties and untick display percentage, then tick it again. Really weird.

I used this script and it works fine, but as a linux noob I somehow messed things up.
I tried to change my touchpad settings, but it seems like i've made the mouse pointer go extremely fast when using the touchpad. When I connect an external mouse, the mouse pointer moves just fine. The touchpad-app doesn't really help me in this situation, as it isn't saving settings. Anyone who can help me? Thanks!

Whoa!
Tried this script, found that it wouldn't download the req'd files. Couldn't find the servers.
As a result, I ended up with a non-booting brick!

Tried the recovery disc, and managed to delete windoze on my lappy requiring a complete re-install!

Managed to get everything working again, but won't be trying this for a little while until i get more proficient with linux.

Horror story for those who are new to linux, be careful.

Now ... where's the advanced mode? I got stuff to download and replace .. :lol:

Is there a way to enable the compiz effects? The config doesn't seem to do anything, some of them are enabled by default but nothing happens? The only way I can get it to work is compiz-manager in terminal, but that sometimes removes the top bar, which isn't much help!

I tried this desktop script, it came up with errors halfway through, bricked my One (just got a black screen on boot with an 'X' for a pointer) :evil: Even the recevory DVD wouldn't fix it. Back to the shop it went for a swap.. oops.

Wonderful script seems to work well so far! Hopefully it will continue to work ok after a couple of updates! To queries though:

1) Editing the menu between settings and help there is "system" is there a config file I can edit somewhere to alter this or is it best just to delete it and rebuild the menu structure by hand ? SOLVED - It seems the easiest option is to rebuild the structure and hide the gnome menu xml files for anyone else, some config files are in ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/ and the other things you can edit are the *.desktop files in mousepad

2) I left in libpurple and removed pidgin from the script, however I can't for the life of me find Acer IM, there's no shortcut to it and I can't see where it's hidden!

How do you guys manage to run the script? I cant get further than the second download.. Seems like the LIVNA repository is offline: "Connecting to rpm.livna.org|193.28.235.40|:80...

i am new in the linux world and having trouble with something that it might be simple for you to help me with.

I want to try this script but after I donwload the file by clicking on your link, I can see the file on my "downloads" folder but I cannot open it, error message tells me that the file is not available...
can you pls help?

I have the same problem - does anyone know how to fix this? I believe this is managed by AUFS, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Apart from that though, the script worked fine.

hey all first post and all,

I would say great script, however i should have checked the links before i ran the script, generally i should have read the script as it deletes system items before it installs them, to over come this open and edit the script google for the missing files, either download or install local, its a nice clean desktop, only thing is i really liked the acer IM over pidgin, as video calls are not supported by pidgin.

on a side note anyone know how to reinstall the acer IM as i liked the quality of the video chat.. and the fact it could do it.. pidgin is just errr lame..
