    Re: Custom desktop script

I too have been having the same problems as copperfish and have also been 'playing' with the system, resetting and starting over again.

I have found a bit of a work around but not a great one.

Open the aone config.sh with mousepad and from the line that starts PACKAGES_TO_INSTALL and remove the entries to install vlc and the two for mplayer. This will now install this great desktop / op system without the two programs. I am currently running the updates and will report back if mplayer works again.

I am completely new to this and hope this has been explained clearly. Not sure if this has anything to do with the problems but, I cannot find vlc in the add/remove program option or by sudo yum install vlc

    Tel

    EDIT:

Search in the forum with 'libpulse.so.0' and there is a solution to this problem under the heading "problems installing VLC" or something like that

    Re: Custom desktop script

Speaking of video playback, does anyone have stuttering on videos?

I've had to use Ubuntu as I need to playback videos from time to time, but it loads up so much slower than Linpus+this script, so I'd love to have the best of both!

It wasn't amazingly bad, but it was noticeable - every 5 seconds or so it would drop a couple of frames, although this varied depending on the bit rate. All videos (including 720p) I've tried in Ubuntu have been fine, so not too sure what the problem could be? I'm guessing something either with graphics or SSD. Compiz effects worked fine for me (and rendering flash pages in Firefox works better than in Ubuntu), so perhaps it's the SSD, some drivers or something?

Hi K0ro, your script is fantastic...thank you!!!!

question: If I download an xcfe theme, how do I install it? I used to go to "appereance",etc but I cannot found that facility

An error occurred in the process. Chek the log file (/tmp/aone-config.log) for more information.

    Re: Custom desktop script

I've tried with the script twice and have bricked the one twice: I'm getting the same errors as wildtuna and copperfish. Can anyone shed light as to what we are doing wrong?? I'm fortunate in that my recovery stick works fine, so I'm only ever 20 minutes away from a working system, but really would like to get this up and running as it looks like the ideal solution for my needs. Are we being impatient?? How long does the over-install process take?

Thanks, and it does look a great script (one day it will be mine??)

    Col

    Re: Custom desktop script

As suggested by tezza , I removed vlc and mplayer from PACKAGES to INSTALL and everything is now working properly !

    Thanks

    Re: Custom desktop script

    **** **** ****

ok sorry for the profanity but my aao is really fucked right now.

I ran this script, stupidly having not made a usb key save because i dont have a usb key sitting around, and the script worked fine all the way through removing all of the linpus packages, but then failed to install the fedora package due to some missing dependencies.

    libpulse.so.0(pulse_0) for mplayer and vlc
    libdvdnavmini.so.4 and libopendaap.so.0 for vlc-core
    and libdvdnavmini.so.4 for mencoder
are all missing. Now linpus is gone and nothing has taken its place. I'm not 100% confident on the terminal so i don't want to shutdown and lose everything that is running right now. It says to look in /tmp/aone-config.log buti dont know how to get to it or even know how to open it once i get there. I really need some help!
    thanks

    Re: Custom desktop script

    Don't worrie! :)

As said before you canremove vlc, mplayer from the script (in the section PACKAGES_TO_INSTALL). Run the script again.

You can edit the script by entering in the terminal: mousepad aone-config.sh

Thanks so much Acme for responding so quickly! I tried opening aone-config.sh file in mousepad but it just shows and empty document. Any more advice?

    Re: Custom desktop script

I get this error as well. Just go to rpmfind.net and search for each of those missing dependencies. There are three packages total (four if you count the extra dependency one of them installs). I used the "Fedora 8 updates for i386" versions and they worked just fine. I was going to be nice and attach them but this forum is rather picky about file attachments.

    Re: Custom desktop script

I got the same missing dependency package problems and now am pretty much screwed. My Linpus made it completely through installation but didn't make it to the installation of a working desktop so whenever I start up my AAO, I get a blank screen and an X as a cursor. I'm fairly new to linux, but others who seemed as lost as I did reported good results and now all I have is a $400 paperweight that isnt even that heavy. Any advice?

    Re: Custom desktop script

Seems that something went very wrong. Is the only thing you see a 'crosshair'? This means that no panel is being started and also no Window manager.
If there's really no way to get a commandline there's nothing much you can do...

Easiest imo is to recover from cd.
Another possibility is to boot from some sort of rescuecd and mount the partition where linpus resides and try to fix it by modifying the startup scripts.

    Re: Custom desktop script

where exactly will i have to place the mount-command, to mount the *complete* home folder (incl. config files) to a sd-card?
if i place it in /etc/fstab it is not recognized, so after boot i get an error msg. hitting f5 solves this.

    thx in advance

Why are you trying to mount a filesystem which is already mounted? ;)
