The Acer support website now has BIOS version 1.11 available for the AOD150. The new BIOS is 2.3mb vs. 1.4mb for the older versions. Has anyone tried it yet, or know what the change log is?

It looks like it was released on 9/21/09. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet?

Just found the 1.11 bios that had the 2.1 SLIC added. Running now and no problems.
(it is not the 1.11 bios from Acer site. Offical 1.11 does not have SLIC 2.1 only SLIC 2.0)

Would be nice to know what Acer Changed.

How do you install this new BIOS into the AOD150? Ive been searching this forum and the acer website and only see the method using the USB flash drive on an older AOA150, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When you download the bios from Acer, it will come with the software to flash the bios and you can do it from with in windows.

Good idea to make sure no other programs are running, that you plug in the power and you make sure it does not go to sleep.

Oh this was a fun update.....

I went from 0.75 right to 1.11 on my d150....

O/S was Win7 Ultimate retail. I am running straight out of the box 7. No upgraded drivers. 7 Found all devices and then had 2 optional Downloads for the net drivers... I should mention I am running a WD 500GB HDD.

I thin did the bios upgrade and Reboot... BSOD.. Loop of death.

I turned off D2D that the Bios upgrade turned back on...

BSOD... turned HDD to IDE from ACHI, BSOD..

Tried Win 7 Recovery from CD... It did not see a hard drive in either mode.

I Booted to CD (ok Thumbdrive Win7 Using the Microsoft "How To Copy 7 DVD to Thumb"). It did not see a HDD in either IDE or AHCI.. umm.. ok?

Tried a USB DVD and the original DVD.. Same.

I put my Original 160gb HDD back in with the factory XP. it booted and said new hardware found and rebooted.
BSOD loop of death... I tried both IDE and ACHI ... D2D on and off... and all combinations.. Oh joy!!

Frustrated I put the Win7 CD back in. it saw the 160 as installable. At that point I swapped the 500 back in. it saw the 500GB only as NEW install, Under Upgrade or the repair options. ~sigh~.. New install... ~formating~.. Luckly I had no data on the 500GB. the 160 is the factory image still... thats going to be a problem..

Mind You I could have possibly gotten a 7 driver from the intel website and tried the "have driver" option. but, i am on the road and this is my only PC at this point. I cant DL anything.. (Remind me to add athros wi-fi driver to my Live XP thumbdrive) . ther are no Windows 7 drivers on Acers page at this point.

Thank You ACER and Your lack of Changelogs. I was seriously about to buy a D250 or the 11". This just made me look at other companies out there...

Why did you upgrade your bios? That sounds like the issue.

To blame Acer when they specifically state not to upgrade the bios without being directed to by a tech rep is not right.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

I have installed three versions of Windows 7 now on my D150, two betas and the RC1, with no issues whatsoever. I have not upgraded the bios, since there has been no reason too, and I haven't experienced any problems.

    Just to answer to PlastikMan

I had a similar issue with a D150 (not mine, mine upgraded just well every BIOS i flashed) months ago.

I ended up creating a DOS bootable usb flash drive and flashed back to 1.09.

Seemed that after 1.11 switching off the AHCI mode on the Hard disk controller does not do anything at all and that's why you could have problems. The issue seems to appear if you originally installed windows in IDE mode...

According to the Ubuntu site, upgrading to BIOS 1.11 solves these two problems (both of which I have experienced with Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10):

    • Did not suspend/hibernate on lid close. Upgrading BIOS to 1.11 version helps.[/*:1srajgn5]
    • Un/plugging AC causes netbook to suspend. With BIOS ver 1.11 this was fixed.[/*:1srajgn5]
Both of these problems are minor, I have no intention of upgrading from Windows XP to Win7, so is there any problem/risk with upgrading to BIOS 1.11 and Windows XP?

One the Acer Support site ( http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/ ) BIOS 1.11 exists in two different versions:

    BIOS Acer BIOS 1.11 917.7 KB 2009/11/17
    BIOS Acer BIOS 1.11 2.3 MB 2009/09/21

Normally, I would think later is better, but there is a huge size difference. :?:

I decided to screw up my courage, and just do it, using the earlier (bigger) version of BIOS 1.11. The two versions download as:

    BIOS_Acer_1.11_A_AOD150.zip (2.3 MB)
    BIOS_Acer_1.11_A_A.zip (917.7 KB)

I could not get the method described at macles* to work, but when I rebooted in Windows, and it was stone simple to do, since there was a readme file:

Neither the readme nor KAV10111.exe are included in the later version.

I'm now at BIOS 1.11, and for the first time ever, the machine goes to sleep in Ubuntu 9.04 when I close the lid. :p Boot time is about 5 seconds faster; not much, but every little bit helps.

I may even decide to give Ubuntu 9.10 a try. 10.4 still has far too many things that do not pass on the D150 compatibility chart.
