What does the "E" suffix mean in the D255E model line? How is it different from the D255? At the store, all I can physically notice is a different power button and a different textured touchpad button. Is one a better line than the other? Any difference in features or upgrade-ability? Thanks!

The only thing I could find different from the D255 compared to the D255E is that in some D255E models it comes with more choices in processor, Intel® Atom™ processor N455/N475 (512 KB L2 cache, 1.66/1.83 GHz). The D255 only came with either the Atom N450 or N550. Also the D255E is the 2011 version with the D255 being the 2010 version.

If you don't know the models with the Atom N450 doesn't give much of an upgrade from the original Atom N270 and it also only supports DDR2 Ram. The Atom N455, N475, and N550 all support DDR3 Ram. Also the N550 is a dual-core processor so it will give you slighly better performance then the single core versions.

If it was me and I only had a choice between those two models I would get the D255E simply because it is the newer model of the two.

Update: Having looked at different models of the D255E, it looks like they all come with a 250GB hard drive and the D255 only comes with a 160GB HDD.
