    Hi,
I've got to send my machine back to acer (problem with power socket) but as I use for work there's some sensitive business plans on it. I've removed these and all data off the machine. However I'm not sure how secure the data is even once deleted or removed. Is there a tool available to over right the HD please? I just don't want firing for giving out sensitive company info if possible.

    Thanks

    Rich

There's a nifty free application called "Eraser" I've been using for about five years - google for other opinions about it:

    http://eraser.heidi.ie/

You can choose the level of overwrite from 1 to 35 times (slow) and erase files, folders or wipe the free space on the disk to get rid of previous "deleted" but not destroyed files. I use it routinely instead of "deleting" from rt-click the context menu.
