I recently purchased an Aspire One A110 (1 GB, 8GB SSD, WinXP) primarily to use as an in car GPS system. I have a Kensington 70 Watt Universal DC power adapter which uses different interchangeable tips for different computers. I have used it successfully for my MacBook (with a little surgery on the Apple MagTip Adapter) and I would like to use it for the A110. However, I checked with the Kensington support people and their list of supported Acer laptops doesn't include the A110. They have an adapter tip (Smarttip N14) for the larger/older Acer laptops and it looks like it provides the following :- 19 V, 3.42 Amps, 65 Watts. The specs I've found for the A110 says it needs 19 V, 1.58 Amps, 30 Watts.
    - Will the difference in Amps be a problem if I use this Tip ?
    - I'm assuming that the actual physical plug is the same and that Acer wouldn't us a different plug for the A110 - Is that a safe assumption ?

I have used a standard inverter successfully with the A110, but it seems somewhat inefficient to convert 12 V DC to 240 V AC only convert it back to 19 V DC for the computer to use. I have also found a couple of dedicated DC adapters for the A110 on the web for about US$40 but would like to make use of my existing 70 W DC adapter if possible.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Jeff.

Thanks. I saw that thread awhile ago and ordered the adapter. It has just arrived from the US and I'm going to give a good test this weekend with a long drive and some 4WD'ing.

    Bye Jeff.
