I have had the same problem after two months or so of ownership. Fortunately I remembered reading about the black screen problem on here, and Macles' procedure fixed it. Thanks!

You reflashed 3X ? What version BIOS are you using? reflashing to .3304 or .3305 will pretty much solve the Black screen problem.

O.K. I confess that I have been using the latest Bios, thinking that newer would be better. On the plus side, I feel that the battery charge did last a bit longer with the new Bios.

In every instance when I had the black screen incindent, it was after going into hibernation. It is frustrating to be in front of hundreds of people about to give a lecture, and not be able to bring your machine to life.

Macles what can I say. I was packing for a trip overseas tonight and was doing a last minute check to make sure the wife and kids remembered how to use Skype. I turned the AA1 and waited for it to boot up BUT NOTHING WAS HAPPENING. I was really starting to panic as I didn't want to bring my new MBP and risk damaging it or having to beg my 15 year old son for the ThinkPad R61 I handed him down just a month ago, but then I remembered this thread. IT WORKED!!
    THANKS A BUNCH!!

That's exactly the bug.... on hibernation. The AAO somehow corrupts it's own BIOS in the process. Why not just use sleep instead for the time being. I noticed the drain is not that bad actually. At least that's better than always reflashing the BIOS. What OS is this? XP? If XP, what version and SP?

My issues never happened when hibernating. I had it happen when I exited the BIOS once, other times it happened on cold boot. In any case, have moved to 3304 from 3114 and have not had the issue since (about a month now).

I had the exact same issuse, dead Aspire One only the power light and fan came on...my heart stoped for a few seconds, I just didnt have the time to deal with this.
Anyway I had just got finished backing up 324mb to a usb stick. I then rebooted left came back to a blank screen. I came here immedately and found this link.

I followed the macles example to a 'T' of formating a usb to FAT and copying two files located in a zip from http://sites.google.com/site/maclesblogspotcom/
There were two sets of zips i used the newer one i think, ZG5_3305.zip. The contents of the zip file:
    3305.BAT
    FLASHIT.EXE
    ReleaseNote.txt
    ZG5_3305.fd

In macles statement it was not clear what the BIOS file was. So i guessed that ZG5_3305.fd was the BIOS file mentioned.
I renamed ZG5_3305.fd to ZG5IA32.FD and copied to USB stick and then copied FLASHIT.EXE to the USB stick. I then took the USB stick
out from my desktop computer and placed into the Aspire One and followed macles boot sequence. After the last step, blinking stops...just wait...and wait.

    thanks...that was close

I've got the AA1 with win XP and a 160GB HDD. I was trying to upgrade the bios and something went wrong. If i hit the power button all that happens is the fan turns on and the power button begins to flash. The HDD doesn't kick in and the screen never turns on.

I created a FAT usb flash drive and copied the mentioned files over. After booting with FN+ESC pressed the flash drive doesn't even get accessed at all. I know this because the flash drive light never blinks... The laptop power button just continues to blink. Any suggestions on getting this fixed?!? Any help would be appreciated!

I'm having the exact same problem here with the same model. I did FAT and FAT32 and did rename the file as specified. It's just not reading the USB drive at all and the light just keeps blinking at the same rate. I'm wondering if the method posted on macles doesn't work with the black 160GB HDD model (AOA 150-1423)? Oh, this happened after it went into hibernate on battery power. The Wi-Fi light was still on during the "hibernate". I open it up and it won't come out of hibernate after pressing some keys and the power button. So I turned it off completely and all I got now is the black screen, fan spinning, and the power LED on. No bootup at all, no bios screen, nothing.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time. I have an essay due and some lecture notes that I have yet to back up still on the HDD. =/

I have the same unit you do, except mine is blue. It happened to me after I woke it up from sleep a few days after performing a BIOS upgrade. Now nothing works. Same status. Screen is blank, fan spins, and power LED blinks if the FN+ESC is pressed when powered on. Even with the flash drive formatted to FAT and placed into the rear USB port on the right side it doesn't even seem to get accessed. Any solutions?

I don't want to send it back to Acer if there is something I am missing that I can fix easily!

I have the exact same problem with my new AAO, however mine is the 8gb NAND and I just installed another gig of RAM. I tried performing a BIOS recovery but face the same problem with my USB not being accessed. Not very helpful contribution but there you go. Best of luck to everyone facing problems.

Two months old AA1 WinXp 120GB 6 cell batt user from Hong Kong. Previously used bios 3114. Encountered blank screens several times. Hard reboot solves the problem. Flashed it last weekend with Winflash to 3305. Blank screen appeared twice already. New bios doesn't solve the problem.

Guess I'm bringing this in for service at Acer. Nothing seems to be working. Once I get this fixed I'm selling this in my local classifieds and picking up an Asus Eee 1000h. An extra $100 is worth the peace of mind (along with Bluetooth and Wireless-N) of not having such catastrophic failures occur during my University studies.

With so many people suffering from this issue (300+ posts and 10000+ views in this thread alone), it's amazing how Acer continues to deny the problems and continue to push out bad batches just to boost sales numbers over Asus. The person above used the latest BIOS and the issue has yet to be resolved. I haven't found such prevalent and catastrophic issues with the 1000H. Yet I read everywhere (just do a Google search of Acer Aspire One issues and they try that search with the Asus 1000h instead and the comparison is remarkable) of Aspire Ones bricking due to BIOS crashes with some batches not having the Fn+Esc method work at all. So in my case, I guess I played the Acer lottery and lost. Congrats to those who lucked out with non-defective units and may be quick to defend Acer. But the numbers don't lie.

I'll follow-up this post later in the coming weeks about my service experience with Acer when I personally carry it in to them at their service center. Somehow they'll manage to wipe out the important data on my hard drive and say it was expected of me to back up the data before bringing it into service. Yet that is impossible given how the Aspire One is designed (non-removable HD without disassembling the whole thing and voiding the warranty + defective BIOS not even getting past POST)

I am having the same issue: Kingston ram upgrade and now dead, a month later.
I have another thread going detailing my experiences with Best buy's Geek Squad repair. So far so good.

I just left mine in the car today and it wouldn't boot. Blind Bios update fixed it.
    Thanks
