well in my own case, there was no fan noise, but just a very small a discreet hiss. Same sound as an alarm on low battery.

an odd thing happened this morning. I left it on over night, the battery died of course. I tried to turn it on, nothing happened (no juice, duh). I plugged it in, it started to boot... I got the splash screen, then it restarted. It started to boot again and voila! my desktop returned. hopefully this won't happen again.

has there been any info on what is causing the bios to fail.. my acer failed right at the same time as my gateway laptop both use the intel 945 chipset I believe.. and both failed when I was formatting usb drives and while I was trying to place multiable partitions on the usb drives... the only saving grace is the Marcel's fix... my gateway has been bricked for 2 months now with warranty... can't get any real support for the piece of junk....      But i am curious if the intel chipset is part of the problem..?

Not heard anything, i've sent mine back to the warranty people. As an aside, when i mentioned my battery leakage they escalated it to a senior manager because they'd never heard of it happening before. When the courier came to pick it up, he confided to me that he would never buy one due to the number he had picked up, "We're having to visit curry's a couple of times a week and I've lost count of the number I've picked up from private indviduals" :-O

My just kicked the bucket as well.

No hope of returning it thanks to how obvious it has been that I've opened it up.

But when I try to turn it on, I dont get a single hint of life. Plugging in the power cable causes the battery light to come on, then dim until it goes. Same with the main power light, though this dies a little bit after the battery one.

*sighs* and I loved it so much. But I dont think I'll get another one, I was running OSX on it, and think I might just save up for the real deal...

I've got an 8GB SSD running Linpus that I think might be dead. I get the blue acer screen, then the acer aspire one background, but this is followed by a black screen with the mouse cursor (which I can move). I've flashed the BIOS according to macles, but with no success. Any ideas?

a similar thing happened to me. i left the computer on and let the battery die. i plugged it back in, got the AA1 splash screen, it then rebooted. I got the AA1 splash screen again but this time it booted to the desktop fully functioning.

this worked for me but it may have different effects or no effect at all for you. good luck.

    Success! Thanks palingenesis!

I flashed the bios before letting the battery run down, with no success. Are there any negative ramifications of flashing the Bios to version 3305?

i dont really know actually. there shouldn't be any. i would read macles blog if you're concerned and comments section of 3305 bios post to see if there was a problem with it.

I have a 150 1493 that ive had since august(xp,120gig). Ive used it as my daily computer since then without any kind of serious issue. well today I went to fire it up and it wouldnt go. I had the symptoms(fan on , power button on but no screen or hd light activity). My other laptop has been down forever so I had to bust out my old desktop(Which i havent used in years)...thank goodness i kept it. I did the usb flash thing(With the latest 3309 ) and voila. thing fired right up.

I hope this doesnt happen again. At least I know what to do, but its a bit worry some. If something else happens I will report back.

hopefully I wont have to . thanks for the help to everyone in the thread

yes i do hope so that would be great although what they also might do is stop making new bios for original AAO because the new one came out o well if that happens we will just have to stick with the latest one

can'twait to peek at the techinal specs so we can see what the real hardware differences are. if its not too big, i figure we can stil use the new bios' as well
