we'd need to look into more of the technical specs then the basics. aka motherboard models and slight hardware revisions in this new model.

Yea ^^ its almost strange, but the smallest change in hardware could render new bios' from the 10in unuseable for ours. Its just like my brothers recovery cd's for his pc won't work with mine because of a minior motherboard revision. yet we have the same model compaq presario.

yeah. i think that they would have based it on the same thing so there probably isnt to many changes

I too am joining the dead acer aspire one club. Mine died this morning. I am not very computer savvy so can anyone tell me if there is a way for me to get my data (you know pics, documents, movies, etc) off this thing. Bought mine in Nov from Walmart, so it is still under warranty. I also purchased the extended warranty from walmart. I have not made any mods to it. Also I have been reading about the BIOS flashing and thinking about attempting that but how do I know if that will void my warranty or not? I really appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you!

i don't think that it would void your warranty seeing as the bios is available for download on the acer website. if you have the symptoms of the bios problem you should definitely upgrade the bios it fixed all of my problems and i didn't loose any stuff from the hdd and best of all it was so easy

I have had my aao 120gb, 1gb ram for 3 months now. I have not upgraded any hardware. I shut it down the other night and closed the lid, the next day I went to switch on and no boot up.... fan running but no sign of anything else running. I live in Spain and would probably have problems returning it to the shop so I followed the instructions listed on this thread..
    http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer ... overy.html

This worked for me.. It is an easy process and only took minutes to complete.....

Thanks to all on this forum, it´s the first place I thought of to get help.....

IT WORKS!!! Thanx so much for bringing my ONE back to life!!! :D
I do have a problem though.
I had a password for the previous bios and now it doesn't seem to accept it!!!! :?
it was very small and only numbers so the caps lock thing I read about here is not the problem.
Is there anything I can do? cause I can't get in the bios now

    PLEASE HELP
    thanx

I may have messed up really bad...

My One died yesterday. I called Acer, registered my One, and sent it in today...looking back, this may not have been the wisest decision. I had taken it apart to see what kind of options I would have with expanding/upgrading the hardware...and some screws got lost in the abyss of my dark dormroom carpet...I have been reading about this BIOS problem all day, and I'm scared they may not honor my warranty. The only thing that changed from when I bought it is a couple of screws are gone. I realize this was pretty stupid. Does anybody know what the outcome will be? Should I cancel the shipment? Will Acer send it back if they do not want to fix it? If they can still fix it, will they charge me extra?

    Thank you.

There are only 2 outcomes. They will fix it for free, or they will fix it and send you the bill. if it gets sent in for repair, it will get repaired ether way. i would say they might not notice the screws, as all they do is flash the bios and its done.

And yes, no matter what, they will send it back to you. they will not keep someone's Acer computer if its been opened. all that happens is you could void your warranty.

Thanks, Ranger Wolf. I've never had a problem with a computer, so I have 0 experience dealing with warranties, manufacturer policies, etc.

I had the same thing. If macles' trick doesn't work, there's not much else to do except send it in for repair. They replaced the motherboard on mine.

oops being a technophobe, I didn't read the instructions properly! You obviously need the bootable USB drive attached when you reset the bios. Works a treat when you follow the instructions. :?

    Hello, everyone:
I have the same problem, after 3 weeks of testing Linpus lite, Feb10(Gnome) & Madriva(Kde) my littleONE take a "black screen" rest but with the help of Acer's tech support, It come back to try some more test with Eeebuntu & Linpus 9.4 . Although the problem is solve (Update BIOS 3104 > 3309) I still have some doubts, if there is a problem with the Macles's method, what will be the problem? there is a great risk to the motherboard if you fail updating the BIOS (newb question)?. Installing another OS, the actual bios remain intact? (another newb question).
