    Hey!
I flashed the bios from 3114 to 3309 and yeterday (bout a week ago) the same problem appeared.
No need to described - exactly the same thing!! DEAD!!!

So I just flashed it back to 3114 and it now works but I guess it's a matter of time till it dies on me again ( that's why I always carry with me a stick with the bios flash)

so just FYI, 3309 is not good (ta least for me)

Is there any bios version out there that works for sure? One that you tried and holds strong...

    thanx

    oops one more question.

I don't wanna flash the bios every week (as the first time this happened it was a week after I bought it and one week later it happened again)
So I was thinking maybe I send it to ACER for a replacement if it happens again.

1st do you know if they'll replace it or just flash it? (if the just flash it there's no point doin' that and wait - I need it for work)

2nd I installed xp on it (OEM- no license needed) but if it's to be sent to acer I'll switch it back to linpus. Do you know if this (loading windows) voids the warranty and if it does is there a way they can find out about it? no other mods by the way just windows.

    Thanx again. :D

PS. I live in Greece by the way...

What they can't figure out, can't hurt them is the general rule ^.^

If you switch abck to Linpus, i doubt they'd ever figure out you had XP installed without going through tons of effort. Aka, your totally safe :)

DOH! Mine just died again, in the past I've just followed the directions to reflash, but this time it isn't working. I've tried a few dif files, a brand new flash drive, and letting it drain the battery till it shutoff.

Any ideas? Fn+Esc still gets the power light to blink so I would think there is still hope but it seems to not be flashing the bios.

So my usb drive boots up on my other laptop no problem, the flashit.exe doesn't run on it, but it is there.

I've tried just about every bios version I can find, I have tried with just the exe and the fd file, with all the files, renameing the batch file, changing the file name in the batch file and nothing.

I have pulled out my memory, I've disconnected everything from the motherboard except for the keyboard, I have tried just about everything I can think of.

So I guess I will be parting out my Acer.

Like Zizux, I successfully upgraded my BIOS to 3309 and the Aspire One worked fine for two days.
Then the same black screen problem returned, and now the computer does not respond to anything.

Any suggestions other than just sending it back to Acer?

can anybody with a good working one on bios 3309 do the FNC+ESC boot up and tell me what is displayed, mine simply will not reflash and I think its due to the 3309 bios.

    WOOT! Problem Solved.

I had a USB Bluetooth adaptor soldered to the USB ports on the bottom side of the board, I removed the wires, as I was planning on parting out my one.

I thought, what the hell one more time, maybe having another usb thing was the cause of the problems, and sure enough it flashed it and I now have a working one again.

Just talked to an Acer support engineer in the Netherlands. She said that they were already reparing my One (only brought in yesterday!) and were replacing the main board.

She did not believe that this was a Bios issue.

    FYI
the ACER after-sales-service in Switzerland replaces any BIOS on machines sent to them exclusively with the 3114 version (and NOT the 3309 or further).
I am talking about replacements made in january 2009.
The bios 33xx series have a problem, which causes the foresaid ASS (after-sales-service) to use exclusively the 3114?
    GOK (God Only Knows)

I got the same problem yesterday. Flashed my Bios with the 3309 Bios version and the problem came back.
Now I'm flashing with the 3305 version of the Bios and no problems to report, but I checked my Bios options and it says I'm running with the 3114 version even after use the 3305 version, any idea what its happening?

EDIT: well, I found another tutorial explaining how to flash the bios and it worked!!!

    AAO working fine here thx.

    hello everybody,
this is my first post so please excuse me for waffling.
I have just got my aspire one back from acer after having the same problems. When it arrived back the diagnosis sheet had on it-
    problem diagnosed

machine powers on but no display

    work carried out

    reflash/reset bios, reseated/reassembly

system fails to post. used crisis disc. updated bios and battery firmware. unit powers and posts.

I hope this throws some light on the problem and could help somebody out there? now where the hell do we get one of these crisis discs?

    cheers Kev

This happened to me yesterday. It doesn't sound like there is any easy solution (bummer). Has anyone tried "bios recovery" to fix the problem?

I have the blue AA1 with XP and a 160 gig hard drive. I'm having the same problem. Power light is on,something spinning (fan or drive), but nothing else happens. I looked at this forum and the fixes here and elsewhere are a little too complicated for me. I emailed support at Acer, their emailed suggestions were not helpful, and when I called the telephone number 866 539 3901, I got Gateway and they said the serial number was not a Gateway product, so I should call the "manufacturer". I did register my machine, and the correct serial number was on the reply email that I got from them.
Does anyone have a better US telephone number for them? I don't want to waste anymore time on this and need to know how to send it in so it can be repaired. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, first post here (I think)

Anyway, I have had my computer since november and haven't had a single problem with it. Until Thursday. Wednesday night, I used it, then shut it, it goes into standby when shut. Left it overnight, then thursday morning, it was dead. It powers on, but no screen. No hard drive light (except one little blip right as I turn it on) and no wi-fi light. Power light comes on, and charge light is comes on. Doesn't go into standby when shut. Absolutely nothing shows up on the screen, ever. I have an email out to acer and haven't recieved a reply yet.

Is this the problem decribed in this thread? Will the bios thing (I'm not real technical) fix it?

If it doesn't work, will it void the warranty? Can I still send it back to acer for repair if it doesn't work?

I haven't added ram or operating systems.
