    Dear all,

I have the same problem here in Hong Kong too.. I read a few forum in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and even Japan. The same problem is happening everywhere. I returned the first dead AA1 to the dealer. They returned a new one. I was happy about it. Then, after 2 days of using the second one. The same problem happened again.

I tried to call ACER in Hong Kong yesterday. The lady told me they have never had any, not even one AA1 with the same problem. They told me they have never heard of this problem and asked me to bring the dead AA1 for repair.

I will try to flash the bios to the older version and see what will happen....

    Good luck you guys!!

    Dear all,
I tried to used the Fn+Esc method stated previously. It works. The AA1 is alive now. I flash it with the latest 3301 version of bios. It seems working right for 2 hours. Let's see whether it will die again. By the way, the bios still showing the version is 3114. I tried to flash again "formally" with the flash.exe and 3301. Finally, the correct bios version came up. So, now, I am using the latest bios verison 3301 with the bios showing 3301. I am now tried to reboot and reboot my AA1 to see whether it will die again.......

    Dear all,

it is from the offical ACER driver page in Taiwan. here is the link: http://www.acer.com.tw/driver.asp
although it is in Chinese, please give it a try. I am not sure it is beta or release.. seems to me it is release cause the driver can be downloaded to the public. As far as i know from other forum in chinese, this 3301 version is specifically for screen blinking prolbem. I am not sure the bios had already fixed the on/off dead problem. I am still testing my AA1. I left it on last night. I tried to on and off my machine with my bootable USB. Hope it will speed up the testing process. So far, it is "still" ok. Will see!!! I will keep you guys informed.

Be honest, I feel afraid everytime I on and off my AA1. It feel like it will die again although it is perfectly ok so far with this new 3301 bios.

    good luck to you all

    Dear,

as far as i know , the 3301 bios is specifically for flicking screen problem. you may read the previous articles about this problem. Unfortunately, Acer didn't any a thing about what is this 3301 for. The only documentation come with this bios file is a PDA. It only says the procedures for how we can flash the bios. As far as i know from other Chinese website. it is for the flicking screen problem. I am not sure whether it will fix the dead machines problem. I am using this 3301 now for the first day. Hope my machine won't die again. Still testing.......

Can anyone with the dead AA1 confirm me one thing?

Of course, I am the victim of this problem.

I have a guess on why the machine die after a few days of use. My machine dead and I returned it to the dealer. The second one dead too. I remember I unplugged my battery right before the machine dead for both of my AA1. I guess the problem may be associated with the internal battery for bios. Since the bios, somehow, did not get any source of recharge after I unplug the battery, the data in the bios kinda lossing it data after a few hours of use. the bios simply doesn't have any data to read from. that's why the machine won't start.

However, this is just a guess. One thing I am not sure about my hypothesis is that why the machine was still able to start even it was a month since the manufacturing date.

Can anyone with the dead AA1 confirm me one thing? When your machine dead, did you unplug your battery or may be, the battery level was very low?
Or, the AA1 die, even the battery and the adapter plugged always?

I think mine was on battery power the many times that it died, but I can't be sure.

I know i still had quite a lot of batteyr life left though. Mine had a tendency to die when it was already off for a while, or when I was booting off an external disk

Took it back and was third in the queue and the others in front of me both had the same problem!!!!
This time I've bought a Asus eee 901 with Windows...so far so good, but before I did I had a look on a couple of eee forums and it would appear that most of their problems seem to be with the Linux versions whereas the Windows machines seem to be much more solid. :?

My baby died on me this morning too! Without second thought I remembered this post and performed the bios downgrade procedure with success. Here is my story. I installed windows vista on the primary partition and after formating the partition it wiped out the master boot record preventing me from accessing the recovery disk for the Acer recovery program. After 1 day I upgraded the ram with a 1 gig stick from Crucial and had no issues. After a week I decided that I wanted vista and windows xp on different partitions and decided to use windows xp partition program during install. I divided the disk into two equal parts and kept my recovery partition intact. I then wanted to install the original xp home edition so I followed a link to “fix” the D2D recover option. After turning D2D off and making the hidden partition viewable I had success in fixing the primary partition to reactivate the D2D option . Everything was going great and after the last reboot during the Acer customizations the problem hit.

Here is my question for everyone that has had this problem. Did the unit die after installing or reinstalling any operating system be it Linux, windows xp, vista or osx or did it happen on a factory installed operating system fresh out of the box with zero mods? So far it appears that memory upgrades has no factor in this problem. I'm wondering if the bios has some sort of interaction with the D2D program or hidden partition after formating the C drive.

The link below is for anyone wishing to reactivate the Acer recovery program assuming that the recovery partition is still intact. This should be a nice way of backing up your partition if you decided to upgrade your hard drive. This will make your hidden partition visible.

Hopefully we can understand why this happens. If the problem is random be it a bios issue/hardware Acer is going to have a $hit storm with these ticking time bombs. Your average hockey mom has no clue in tinkering with key combination's to recovery from a bad bios. I guess if a great majority has this issue Acer will not look at us as if we have 3 heads.

Hmm now that you mention it, the few times mine died on me was during either a reinstall or bootup a linux live cd!!

In fact it started after I wanted to try put XP on my 8gig ssd aao, and then the moment the XP install was complete the BIOS died. Then it died a couple of more times after I recovered it while I was trying to boot into a linux liveusb disk to recover my mbr.
