I have recovered many AOA150 motherboards with Macles Bios Recovery, but I may have found my first truly dead motherboard.

At first I had no lights when installing battery and AC adapter, no reaction from power button.

Then when probing the connections at the battery with the battery installed I got lights and smoke. Smoke turned out to be Cap C119 under the CPU cooler, which burnt in half.

Now (With cap still burnt) charge light comes on, power light comes on, computer starts to boot, and then at the first flicker of light on the LCD, makes a click noise and shuts off.

Trying "ESC and FN" keys with power button (Macles Bios Recovery) gets no flashing power light.

    Any ideas ????

Picture is from a good motherboard.

I was able to get the flashing power light during Macles Bios Recovery but it just continues to flash for hours and never writes the bios.

It will only power on briefly til it starts to power the LCD, so my next step is to start freezing sections of the motherboard until I locate a defective component.

I can not change C119 unless I rob the component off another motherboard, and this is the only dead motherboard I have. All the other motherboards recovered with Macles Bios Recovery.

I don't see any marks to identify the cap with. I would have to remove from a good motherboard, measure, and then order from Mouser Electronics. It would appear to be a standard surface mount component.

I realy don't believe the problem is the cap (I could be wrong). I think the cap was shorted and prevent the motherboard from have the proper voltage to switch on, by chance the cap melted and now the motherboard attempts to switch on.

But either the bios is bad or some part of the power circuit is intermittently opening up. I just don't see how the cap could be the source of that problem.

Anyway I will try and locate another cap and replace, because it would be easy. (EDIT) Bought used cap, will see when the cap arrives...

    wait, that's not a capacitor, that's a resistor :p
You could identify the resistance (ohms) with a volt meter

Bought a replacement part from a dead motherboard, I will measure when the part arrives. (My thinking was that C119 would be a capacitor whereas R119 would be a resistor)
