So what do you guys thin of this? I wonder what will happen to those who don't own a smartphone or a tablet... this sounds kind of tricky!

Yahoo began its assault on the password in March with SMS-based two-factor authentication, and now the company wants to finish what it started. On Thursday, Yahoo announced Yahoo Account Key, a password-less method of logging in to Yahoo Mail that will roll out to other Yahoo services in the coming months.

Account Key effectively works like two-factor authentication, allowing you to authorize new logins via your smartphone or tablet. The only difference is Account Key is not a secondary back-up measure that kicks in after you've entered your password: it is the primary way you access your account.

Yahoo's approach doesn't rely on the user entering a code received from an authenticator app or SMS. Instead, when you try to log in to Yahoo Mail a notification gets sent to your mobile device without entering a password.

From there you can either hit a Yes or No button to authorize access. This is similar to how Twitter handles second-factor authentication, but again, Yahoo's approach is the primary way you will access your account.

:oops:If only sites could make it easier for user friendliest people like me to login instead of too complicated methods that only makes you frustrated to login. Then we who are user friendliest can have a marvy time logging in so we can use the computer safely. Maybe a fingerprint login that's so fast and easy. I don't know how library computers would have it done, but it could be added to the screen for login with your fingerprint couldn't it? Something that's easy, safe and most of all quick so we can login and use the computer for logins would be great.

Sounds interesting. Though I don't usually have problems logging in so it's not a big concern of mine.

Just one more gadget to keep track on us and gaining phone numbers! I don't like the idea, and I have refuse to give them my phone numbers for so many years now. I rather sign in using my password and Yahoo isn't my favorite email service provider anyway.
