I had alot of problems on removing linux and installin XP.
So heres a write up of what I did to finally get linux off and XP on my Acer One A110 model.

You need a USB External CD-Rom drive
You need Windows XP Service Pack 3
You need Ultimate Boot CD to delete linux

Download the iso image for Ultimate Boot CD here :
    http://download.softpedia.com/dl/b8acc4 ... inV322.exe
Download a copy of Windows XP SP3 iso from your favorite torrent site ( I can not give you a link to it...google windows XP SP3 torrent)

Create disks for your Boot CD and Windows from your iso files your downloaded using PowerIso found here
    http://www.poweriso.com/download.htm

Once you have burned both XP SP3 and Ultimate Boot CD to a CD, plug in your External CD-Rom to your Acer One get ready.

(try and skip this step and just insert your windows CD first, if you get a blue screen error then proceed to follow these boot up instructions)
Step ....Formating your SSD in FAT32 only! NOT NTFS!
Insert your Boot CD you created and turn on your Acer
Press F12 at the Bios menu loading screen to select your boot device
Select your external CD-Rom and press enter
Your Boot CD will now load.....
use the menues to partition the SDD in FAT32
FAT32 MUST BE USED OR XP WILL GIVE YOU A BSOD!
Format the SSD using FAT32 and turn off your acer after the format of the partition is complete

Insert your XP SP3 CD int your external CD-ROM
Press F12 to load your boot menue again
Hit enter to begin installation from the XP SP3 CD

Follow the on screen windows instructions to windows and your on your way.............
Keep in mind to look up tips and tricks to enhance the speed of your Acer one A110...The write times of the SSD are horribly slow.

I couldnt install windows on my Acer One A110 out of the box. I tried inserting my Windows CD and installing over Linux. That wont work. You need to use the Boot CD and format the SSD and a create a partition in FAT32 only. Then and only then you will be able to install windows with ut a Blue screen error.

I hope this helps you guys out there.

I recently purchased an Acer One A150.

Not sure how much difference there is between the A150 and the A110, but I decided to go ahead and install Windows XP SP2 the way I normally would.

Before I started I picked up all the Acer Drivers from ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/netbook/as ... 50/driver/
Caveat, the site seems to be a little unpredictable.
I then copied them all onto a USB key.

I used an HP USB Super Multi DVD Writer but I'm sure any USB CD/DVD device should work so long as you can boot from it.

I loaded my XP SP2 disk into the DVD and booted the Aspire One, hit F12 as it was booting and told it to boot from the DVD.

When Windows Setup started it found 2 partitions on the hard disk a C: and an E: it claimed the E: was 1GB and that the rest of the disk was assigned to C: I deleted both partitions and then created a new partition.

I assigned all the space on the disk to the new partition and instructed Setup to perform a full format, I have had far too many problems with installs onto quick formatted disks for me to even think about that, it's well worth the wait.

From then on it was a very simple process, normal XP installation and setup.
Copy the files from the USB key onto the hard disc, unzip and install.

All extremely simple and no problems.

I did see someone mention Formatting in FAT32 being necessary, it is not for the A150, the format I performed was NTFS and everything is running smoothly.

    Fingers crossed.
    ;)

This is not an ISO image - when I tried to install it, McAfee gave me a lot of errors claiming there are some spyware or unwanted program, including a trojan. Any ideas?

Nitpick: you refer to the Ultimate Boot Cd (ubcd), but the link you provide is of the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (UBCD4win) - which is a different project based on BartPE.

@ verakot: due to licensing agreements, ubcd4win can not be distributed as an .iso. You will need to create the iso yourself, using the builder program included in the download and the files on your own windows cd. You will then obtain a cd filled with useful tools to restore a windows machine.
The reason McAfee (and several other anti-virusprograms) warn for this download is that some of the included tools can be abused by malevolent people. Examples of that include keyfinder (which lets you find the product key of your windows intallation), the "change the Administrator password" programs, boot and nuke (which can destroy the files on your harddrive so well even the CIA and such would have trouble recovering them) etc. If you read the McAfee warning carefully, you will see it talks about potentially unwanted software that could indicate a trojan, not about a virus.

As long as you get your download from one of the locations listed at http://www.ubcd4win.com/downloads.htm (which includes softpedia) the download is virusfree.

If you want the ubcd instead of ubcd4win you should go to http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/. This cd IS disributed as an .iso, but is less powerful and DOS instead of Windows based.

I followed these steps to install Windows XP Pro on Acer Aspire One A150 Model ZG5. I could not get the 3G.zip file from the acer-euro ftp site location. Any ideas what this driver is for?

Thanks for your comment. I found the method described by Thresherinc on Fri Dec 12, 2008 5:31 pm is pretty simple and does not even require the UltimateBoot CD. I was having one small issue with booting from Lacie external USB CDROM drive - for some reason it could not boot from it initially even though I changed the boot sequence prior to powering the laptop up. I found that I had to press F2 (and wait a while) and just press F10 to save and exit BIOS and only after that I was able to boot from that drive. Minor glitch I guess.

It is even far easier in theory ;) Only problem is that Acer no longer offers the .iso of Acer Linpus for download; so you would have to get it through "less official" channels.

Then follow these instructions to get a bootable USB stick:
    http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/12/acer ... y-dvd.html

The downside of Acer Linpus is that it is based on Fedora 8. Fedora 8 is... outdated. Compare it to windows 98 - people still use it, but most new software will not officially support running on it.
