Desktop Help

    Hi,

    I am new to linux, and i have put up with this desktop (shown in picture below) but looking through this forum i have found someone that has a normal looking desktop (like Windows XP is without that huge box in the middle!!!) is it possible to do this? if it is how can i do it?!?!

    might sound really dump but i went to that thread and its well confusing lol i tried to do what i could understand and a box would just flash up and go?!???!

    If that's "well confusing", we may struggle here.

    What have you done? The instructions say to download the archive file from the blog, extract it, and run the .rpm file you find inside the archive. That should install the desktop switcher, and put an icon on your desktop panel (the grey bit at the bottom).

    At what stage are you running into trouble?

    ok i dont know if i am reading into it to much i may well be but is this rihgt in what i think i have to do so far

    run terminal and put in what it says in the forum changedesktop.sh (somehting like that)?!?!
    sorry i am very good at windows xp lol but just got this for xmas and am totally lost lol

    The post I pointed you to doesn't mention changedesktop.sh - are you reading the right one? Have you downloaded the file from the Greman blog and so on?

    will not let me download it says there is an error ?!?! lol

    ok my whole desktop has gone now its just a blank screeen

    I've just downloaded it; here it is for you to try downloading from here.

    What did you do between not being able to download and getting the blank screen?

    i dont know as you can see from my attatchment in previous post my whole desktop items went i have restored defaults in boot now go it all back...... i will give the link u just sent a go see if itlets me download that

    I'm sorry, I don't think I can help if you'r so vague about what is going on. What came up with that message, and at what stage - when you tried to download it, or when?

    Hi,

    I had other problems with my aspire one laptop it was not chargig proberly and went back to the shop today and got a new one, i have just downloaded that application of the link and it now works
