I already changed my desktop picture but everytime i restart or shutdown the AAO it starts again without a picture on the background. My model is the one with Linpus/120gb.

Have you placed your background in the correct directory - /usr/share/xfce4/backdrops/

I open the terminal and run the xfce-setting-show from there i change the route of the image directory and it actually changes on my desktop until i shut it down or restart it.

Yeah, that's exactly what happens unless you put your file in that default directory. Don't know why. Easiest thing is to replace the default image with your own, then it should be persistent.

This happened to me as well as I was keeping it in the Downloads folder.
I restarted my Aspire One and my background was all blue.
I tried to put the background back on but it didn't work.
I copied the image to the /usr/share/xfce4/backdrops folder, went back to ALT + F2, xfce4-setting-show, located it and it worked ( even after a restart ) :- )
