    Just did this today.

Only issue: I need to find where the OpenOffice icons are so I can put them in.

Tat's actually a program called Stardock Fences. The blue highlighted group background isn't drawn on to the wallpaper. It's an actual program that groups desktop icons together allowing you to move the whole group inside a container.

Yeah this is XP. Digsby on XP.

Here's mine. The basic wallpaper has been posted here. I use four different colors at backgrounds for the Windows Virtual Desktop Manager. I use Object Dock and the dreaded Google Sidebar, which seems to be clipped off on this post. If you really want to see it in all its radiant glory, just click "View Image." ;)

I found a set of Object Dock icons that closely resemble the stock Win XP designs. The Object Dock background is "Vector Cell" with some transparency. The battery meter is a Google gadget. The Recycle Bin is the only Windows desktop icon displayed. The Win XP taskbar is set on auto-hide. (I use the Zune Windows theme, BTW, and the overall theme looks better when I use the black variant of the AOA wallpaper, but alas, that's not this screenshot.) The Windows icon in the dock displays the XP Start Panel.

I installed this expecting it to be quicker but to not enjoy using it compared to Gnome - well its actually very fast and beautiful to use! Roll on XFCE 4.6.0.

    Thanks!

It is #!Crunchbang Linux. Full version. Very lightweight, fast and has become my setup of choice for the AA1. Crunchbang uses openbox.

Conky is the info display app you see on the right. Installed by default with Crunchbang. I have tweaked it to display the info I want. I also am using the new acerhdf 0.3 for fan control, and I integrated its ability to query the current CPU temp into conky so it is displayed also on the desktop.

Can't tell from my screenshot (gwibber's output obscures it), but down in my panel on the bottom right is the dropbox tray icon, gwibber, blueman applet (which I like much better as a bluetooth app), etc.

For me Crunchbang has really made me enjoy the AA1 so much more.

Can't say enough about the new acerhdf fan control kernel module either. Really nice. Good to have it as a kernel module and not worry about race conditions or any problems the other fan control apps for Linux potentially have. Being able to get the current temp in a safe way also made it nice to integrate the cpu temp into conky.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

i am confused about what themes I can use to customise my aspire one. GTK, XCFE, Compiz??

Looking through the add/remove programs manager, i seem to be using XCFE. But installed is Compiz and GTK. Can I just download these themes from deviant art and install them?

ps just realised that this might be the wrong forum for this kind of thing, erm..sorry. :(

GvidoR, Web Broswer is Mozilla SeaMonkey. It's replacing Firefox. It has an email client and other built in programs. You can use all Firefox Addons also. :)

But I still find my self using Google Chrome more.

The program that displays the system info is: Everest Ultimate Edition. "Portable Version"
I'm only using a couple of the options but you'll see,
    I'll PM you a link.

Never heard of Mozilla SeaMonkey but I'll google it. :D
Oh right, I am now using Notebook Hardware Control, it's something like you have on the desktop but that one looks better. ;)

Guess I'll post mine. As of today it's Windows XP (Unofficial Acer Aspire One version from these boards), Zune Theme, Notebook Hardware Control, Rocket Dock and a wall paper I made from a picture I found and loved.
