I have had Acer for about a week now and done various changes and customizations without breaking it even once! Amazing :)

I'm starting to feel quite satisfied with my current setup. First I was going to "upgrade" to Ubuntu + Netbook remix, but testing around and reading things about that made me change my mind.

I now have (if I remember right):

    - The basic Linpus dekstop and xfce-desktop (with that nice script that allows changing with a button).
    - Compiz + Fusion icon (for changing back to Xfwm4 while playing etc.)
    - Updated BIOS
    - SSD elevator noop -patch
    - VLC, Audacious etc...
    - Upgraded 3d drivers with dithering ~960fps (~900 while compiz running)
    - Nice themes & wallpapers
    - Correct icons & shortcuts on menus
    - Games working extremely nice (Max Payne 1, Heroes 3, ZSNES)

Haven't had so much fun with computers in ages :)

    Oh almost forgot the screens:

Here's mine right now, a little rough but hey it's a work in progress. It's what I call 10min in photoshop.

Just guessing here but those are phony transparencies right? I'm not knocking it, it looks good. I tried to do real transparencies and had some default icon bleed through is why I'm asking.

yep, 'tis completely and unashamedly phoney!
The trick is to leave 2 px extra on bottom and right hand side of image file for the coloured backgrounds, and on the right hand side only for the coloured title bars. That is if you're trying to be pixel perfect.
Also /usr/share/background/images/ is full of PNG that are all somewhat bigger than how they end up on screen. don't let that bother you, just make image files the size of the areas on screen (plus the extra pixels where appropriate) and you should be able to get your transparencies spot on.

My god this was a humongous pain in the ass. It doesn't even align correctly, but I'm too lazy to fix it.

Are you familiar with Photoshop or any other picture editing software that allows you to handle multiple layers? If so then what Donat was saying is to take the .png files from /usr/share/background/images/ edit them in your favorite picture editing software. Like he said though:

By the way thanks Donat, you probably saved me a lot of time while trying to figure out the 2 extra pixels thing.

Here's my current desktop. Nothing too special, really, I just like the way the Windows color scheme and the wallpaper work together.

The wallpaper is a detail from a painting by Zdzislaw Beksinski. I've put it and the other two Beksinski wallpapers I made for my Aspire One on Photobucket. http://s460.photobucket.com/albums/qq325/adoblivione/

    EDIT:

Two notes. One, I know I'm not using the proper accent marks in Beksinski's name, but when I tried to do so the SQL database choked on it. Just a warning. Two, I set my taskbar to auto-hide to fully show off my wallpapers. The only two icons I keep on the desktop are the Recycle Bin and a folder called Stuff, so it really gives the full effect of the image.
