Like to keep things pretty standard and simple. No cluttering of the desktop! Never use xp, just have it there incase.

I fear I cant remember the program I used to change the windows skin, or what the particular skin is. Google "unnoficial windows skin" or something. You need to work around some block MS put on unnoficial skins.

The jive on the desktop is the Rainmeter mod (free) with HUD.Vision skin. The audio player in it uses winamp. Its designed to use minimal system resources (I've seen no slowdown) and the skin uses no system resources as it doesnt use a seperate program.

Customize.org has most of what I used. I don't know where I got the backgrounds :( sorry... But good places to look are 4chan.org's wallpaper board (not the anime one) and deviantart's "daily deviations" and most popular images.

    Logon screen follows.

I made the logon screen with logonstudio (free) from stardock. Again I can't remember where i got the image (I archive them all but don't source them, as I am a gigantic tool). Program takes a little getting used to.

(I called my Acer Yocto. My main laptop for gaming and so on it called Yotta ^-^ I think its cute, in a hideously nerdy way.)

Most XFCE installations I know of use two "taskbars": on on top with the usual commands and applets, and one below with the desktop switcher and the "open programs" list. But if you like, you can move all those things to one taskbar or even create extra taskbars on the sides of the screen.
