    Hi everyone,

I need a dictionary and a translator that can translate between english/chinese/spanish. I've tried both stardict/fantasdic from, but I need to be able to use this while offline, and fantasdic doesn't seem to be able to do that, and stardict was way too confusing and overcomplicated.

I guess I just want the linux equivilant of wordweb but with spanish/english/mandarin, as well. Or if someone could explain how to properly utillize stardict since the ubuntuforums seem to hold that program is high regard.

Also, since installing pidgin seems to have broke my calender program, is there a way to fix it or does anyone know of a similar program that will let me be able to add events/tasks/etc rather than just showing what day it is?

    Thanks for everything.

    I wouldn't mind having a nice easy to install off-line dictionary/thesaurus myself.

Have you tried to run WordWeb under wine?

    1. Dictionary: The only alternative that I can think of is to set up your own dictd server and installing this dictionary (Stardict dictionary converted to dictd format)- http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/text/dict-xdict.

    2. Translator: Can't think of any offline ones right now.

    3. Thesaurus: Kthesaurus (part of KOffice) is the best graphically thesaurus. It can be made even more powerful by installing Wordnet.

you simply have to press alt-f2, then type in "gnome-dictionary" without quotes.

I wasn't thinking that straight when I tried it and found out that you do need to be connected to the internet for it to work though ><

There are many times throughout my day that I am not connected to a wifi network and need access to all my programs

gnome-dictionary is just a frontend for dictd:

    http://www.dict.org/links.html

In order to use it locally, you have to setup a dictd server and install all the dictionary databases you want. dictd and a basic set of dictionary should be included in the Fedora repo.
