I bought mine from Amazon and someone had opened mine. The One's bag wasn't properly re-closed, the battery was in a slit open bag, the box was re-taped and the AC "country cord" was missing (fortunately I had a cord to plug into the brick.)

I got an Intel SSD, 2200mah battery, no 3G connector, no SIM hardware and no SATA connector.

I'm really not happy to think someone at Amazon was pawing the inventory looking for 2400mah batteries and Samsung SSD's!

Got 2400mah blue with Samsung SSD from PC World, oh yeah!!!!!

Sorry to hear about the guys with smaller batteries and slower SSD's, everyone should get the same spec IMHO.

Would it be possible to install the OS on a SDHC or thumb drive and not use the SSD at all? I was thinking about buying one but if I can't get a reliable storage device ill save my money.

Installing Ubuntu onto a USB drive is fairly straighforward. Installing it completely on the SDHC card doesn't currently seem to be possible as you cannot boot directly from and SDHC card. You could, however, install grub on the internal SSD and have most of the OS on the SDHC card.

It is also possible to install XP on an external USB drive but since Microsoft have, for whatever reason, chosen not to support this, the process was decidedly painful the last time I did it. It did work though.

I doubt that running XP entirely or even mostly from the SDHC card is possible.

Having said all that, there is no reason to describe the SSD as "unreliable". It's just that some are faster than others and even the slow ones are perfectly usable when running Linux at least.

Sad to say I got the slow Intel SSD. Here's the bench mark via HD tune.

    Intel SSD
    2400mh

I don't have any complaints in speed though. Boot up and general application performance seems excellent. Maybe it's due to tinyXP rev09, 1.5G ram and all the recommended configurations here in the forum.

Btw, just wanna ask, what's the advantages and disadvantages of switching off the write caching in an SSD. What's the impact in the performance?

I've got me a white One. Bought it in the Netherlands, MediaMarkt Utrecht. It has the Samsung SSD, and i'm not sure about the battery, but I guess it's the "smaller" one. Running Debian Sid on it now.

Oh, a nicer way of finding out what SSD you have is the "lshal | grep storage.model" command :)

I ordered a white One on the 5th and it arrived today! :D
SSD is the P-1800, that's the fast one right? Battery is 2200mAh.
I bought it from Dustin Home in Sweden.

I will install XP or Vista later and tach it in HD tune.

...crappy Intel SDD. Although I only really noticed a lag when copying some large files. Plan to try installing XP over the weekend.

    Hello all.

Pretty unfair that Acer made buying One like a lottery. I bought mine from Gigantti Finland, and fortunately got P-SSD1800 -one. Btw there's nice and clean info about your hardware in /proc..

    Code:
     kp@kpnb:~$ cat /proc/scsi/scsi
    Attached devices:
    Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: ATA Model: P-SSD1800 Rev: Ver2
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05

    kp@kpnb:~$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info
    present: yes
    design capacity: 2200 mAh
    last full capacity: 2060 mAh
    battery technology: rechargeable
    design voltage: 11100 mV
    design capacity warning: 300 mAh
    design capacity low: 82 mAh
    capacity granularity 1: 32 mAh
    capacity granularity 2: 32 mAh

    serial number: 0395
    battery type: LION
    OEM info: SIMPLO
