I'm using some no-name DL USB burner that I bought on eBay for another computer. I think any or almost any USB external CD/DVR would work. If you have gotten to far into this, you have to hit the F2 key on boot up to get to CMOS in order to change the boot sequence. The first time I went in there, it shown a standard USB CD down the list.

After plugging my USB unit in and going back in to CMOS, it showed my burner by name. At the moment, I'm stuck here waiting for a new HD for my Acer which should be arriving later this week. The reason I'm going with a new hard drive is so that I can keep my original setup on the HD that came with the unit ready to remount if I don't like the performance with Win 7. There are other ways to do this (like doing an image of the hard drive on an external HD. I did that, but I don't have a boot disk to access my image file.

Anyway, I should be rolling on my Win 7 installation as soon as my new HD arrives.

Note...It's incredibly to replace the 751h hard drive.

Why do you need an optical drive anymore?

More and more software titles are distributed over the internet, even large programs like MS Office.

I don't need a physical optical drive. I use a the free Virtual Clone Drive by SlySoft. I use my home computer to create ISO images of my software disks, store them on an external hard drive, then use Virtual Clone Drive to mount them as DVD's. Works great.

That came to mind, but an external would just save me a few steps, you know?
Thanks for reconfirming my initial intuition...
