    Hi First Post.
Picked up an Aspire One yesterday
    8 Gig 512ram Linux
I'm planning to stay with Linux as I have Xp & Vista on 2 other Laptops
I was wondering if I have enough Ram to view the occasional Movie and perhaps load some more Linux Programs ?
Sorry if this has been asked before..
    Regards
    Ian

I find that i can watch DivX video's without problens on the Aspire One. The amount of RAM that came with it should be sufficient. But iff you want to upgrade, note that this will more than likely void your warranty with Acer

The installed one will do, provided you upgrade it to recognise patented codecs (like divx and such). Fortunately that is quite easy.

Alternatively you could install VLC, which many consider superior.

Explanation on how to achieve both, using the command line:

    viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3770#p25335

Of course, you *could* do it with the graphical add/remove software, but that is so.. so.. primitive ;)

Also, avoid the "special Aspire One" version of VLC Acer will make available through liveupdate soon. It also does not play patented codecs, making it useless. Just use the normal version instead.
